Artie DiMella (1984-1987) enjoyed an outstanding four-year run as a member of the vaunted Seahawk teams of late 1980s. DiMella helped spearhead the 1987 National Championship team, recording a team-best 149 tackles while serving as the team captain en route to earning Second Team Pizza Hut All American and ECAC All-Metro accolades. He helped the defense pitch three shutouts during the magical 1987 season while winning the Lia Trophy, presented annually to the top defensive player following the Homecoming Game.

He also was part of a stout defense in 1986 that allowed the third-fewest points and fourth-fewest yards in school history, pacing the squad with 87 tackles and three interceptions. During his four years, Wagner posted a winning record every season in going 37-9. A standout in the classroom as well, DiMella earned GTE Academic All America honors.
