Alonzo Patterson

The only Wagner football player to have his number retired, Alonzo Patterson was the school’s first three-time All-American. Patterson led all of Division III in rushing over his final two seasons, surpassing 1,400 years in each campaign. Patterson graduated with both the single-season and career rushing records, accruing 1,487 rushing yards in 1981 and 4,177 for his career. Those two marks now stand second and third, respectively. Patterson played a huge part in the Seahawks making two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances in three years. Following his career with the Green & White, Patterson played professionally for the Toronto Argonauts and the Calgary Stampede of the Canadian Football League and the New Jersey Generals on the United States Football League. Following his professional career, Patterson coached on the high school and college levels. He and his wife Tracye reside in Georgia with their five children.
