Official Release
Staten Island, NY – Charlton Boyd of the Wagner men's tennis team has been voted onto the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced on May 17. All First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honors will be selected later this month.
Boyd, who earned his undergraduate degree from Wagner earlier this month as a Government & Politics major, is now a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, after
receiving the recognition back in 2016.
The Shreveport, LA native recently concluded one of the most prolific careers on Grymes Hill in recent memory. Boyd, who was named to the All-Northeast Conference (NEC) Second Team for the second time in his career, helped lead the Green & White to the program's first-ever NEC title match against Bryant back on April 22.
In his final season at Wagner, Boyd became the first Seahawk men's tennis player to ever post 20 or more victories, ending his senior campaign with a 27-3 overall record. He now holds three of the top-five single-season win totals, as he posted 18 wins back in 2014-15 and 16 in 2015-16.
Over his four-year career, Boyd recorded a program-record for wins with 75 as he finished with a career-mark of 75-24. Boyd accumulated 51 of his 75 wins out of the No. 4, No.5 and No. 6 positions, respectively, amassing a combined 51-15 record out of those three spots. Boyd also set the bar high in doubles play, racking up 65 career victories over his tenure.
This past season also marked another first for the recently-graduated Boyd when he became just the second Seahawk to be ranked by the Oracle/International Tennis Association (ITA) when, on November 17, he was the No. 104-ranked tennis player in the country out of 125 Division I tennis players.
Prior to walking across the stage at the May 11th Wagner Commencement, Boyd was honored with three awards the night before graduation. He earned the 2018 Dr. Donald W. Spiro Award for Outstanding Academic & Co-Curricular Achievements, presented to the most outstanding graduating senior for overall excellence.
Additionally, he garnered the 2018 Phyllis Andors Award, in recognition for outstanding performance in Government & Politics while earning the 2018 Barna Csuros Memorial Award, presented to an accomplished student pursuing law.
Boyd's post-graduate plans include attending the prestigious George Washington University Law School, where he will be studying Constitutional Law.
