Oracle/ITA Men's National Singles Rankings
Administered by the ITA (November 15, 2017)

Tempe, AZ – On Wednesday, November 15, the second Oracle/International Tennis Association (ITA) Men's National Singles Rankings was announced.  Wagner men's tennis senior Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) was tabbed No. 104 out of 125 Division I tennis players.

In earning this recognition, Boyd became just the second Seahawk in men's tennis history to be ranked by the ITA, joining fellow teammate, sophomore Hans Ohrner (Margate, FL/Coral Springs Christian Academy), who was recognized by the ITA with a ranking of 115th back on January 4, 2017.

Boyd is the only current member of an NEC program to be ranked after he finished the fall season with a team-leading 11-2 overall record and an 8-2 mark in tournament matches. Additionally, the Shreveport, LA native went a perfect 10-0 in doubles play alongside fellow classmate, Allen Wang (Clovis, CA/Buchanan).

"I am extremely happy for Charlton," commented first-year head coach Shem Filipek. "Day in and day out, he sets a tremendous example for his teammates through his hardwork and dedication both on the court and in the classroom. Being ranked among the top-125 college tennis players is a great individual achievement and a great reflection on our program."

He is the program's current all-time leader in career singles wins with 59 and doubles victories with 60, since the NEC has kept statistical records of singles victories dating back to the 2005-06 season.  The senior team captain kicked off his final season as he claimed the "C" Singles championship along with the "B" Doubles crown with Wang at the Hofstra University Invitational back in late September.

Boyd advanced to the title match after getting past Cole Laffitte (SUNY Oneonta), 8-1, and Santiago Haas (Hofstra), 8-6. In the finale, it was a Seahawks-Pride showdown for the third time at the invitational with Boyd outlasting Hofstra's David Schrott, 8-4, to claim the title. The finals featured the second Wagner-Hofstra face-off as Boyd and Wang meet Schrott and Nick Silvestri, with the Seahawks claiming a 6-4 win to capture the second title of the day for the Green & White.

For Boyd, who captured the NEC Men's Tennis Player of the Month honor for October, it marked the second time in his Seahawk career that he received a citation from the league office after he was tabbed NEC Rookie of the Week back on September 30, 2014.

For October, Boyd posted a 7-2 singles record and a 6-1 mark in doubles action. He won his second tournament of the season at the Fordham Four-In-The-Fall, capturing the "C" bracket title. He won a pair of three-setters, including a 6-1, 2-6, 11-9 victory over FDU's Maciej Autuch in the finale. In the same event, he and Wang were victorious in the "B" flight doubles.

Boyd and the rest of the Seahawks will open the spring season on February 2 when they travel to Newark, DE to tangle with Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) member, the University of Delaware Blue Hens.
