ECAC Release
Somerset, NJ – Wagner senior C/INF
Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
For Dini, it is his first career NEC Player of the Week accolade. He was named the circuit's
Rookie of the Week back on April 23, 2012.
The fourth-year Seahawk did it all as Wagner opened its 2015 conference schedule against LIU Brooklyn this past weekend. Dini accounted for the conference's highest batting average (.615), on-base percentage (.684) and slugging percentage (.923) during the opening weekend of league play.
In a four-game set against the Blackbirds, Dini went 8-for-13 with four doubles, four RBIs, three runs, three walks and two HBP while striking out only once. The Garden State product was a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts.
Defensively, the two-time
Johnny Bench Award Watch List nominee cut down 50 percent of potential base stealers (3-of-6). He plated the first run of the NEC series opener with a third-inning sac fly. Six frames later, his ninth-inning walk-off single sent Wagner to a 3-2 victory and picking up its seventh straight win.
Leading the Green & White to a
9-6 win in the finale and a series split, Dini produced two hits and two runs as he belted an RBI double in the first inning before coming around to score on a wild pitch and tying the game at 2-2.
After doubling again in the sixth, Dini crossed home plate with the go-ahead run one batter later. Dini enters the week starting in 183 consecutive games which is ranked among the top five in the NCAA among all seniors.
