NEC WRITE-UP
Somerset, NJ - Freshman
Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Rookie of the Week after helping Wagner win three-of-four last week.
Dini hit a mammoth .563 (9-for-16) with nine RBI and four runs scored while reaching base at a .611 clip over a quartet of non-conference contests against MAAC members Saint Peter's (4/17) and Iona (4/20-4/21). The Garden State product accounted for a finest day as a member of the Green & White thus far, recording career-highs with four hits, five RBI and three runs during a 19-2 mid-week victory.
Then in Wagner's three-game series against Iona, Dini went 5-for-10 (.500) at the plate with two walks, one run, and four RBI. The second baseman's third-inning RBI single plated the lone run in the Seahawks' 1-0 series-opening triumph in the first game vs. Iona. He followed by going 1-for-2 with a walk and run in the nightcap. Dini, who has hit safely in 27 of his last 29 games, went 3-for-5 with one walk and three RBI in the rubber game against the Gaels, an 18-10 Green & White victory. Dini leads the team with a .331 average and 49 hits while adding 21 runs, six doubles, four triples, 23 RBI, six stolen bases and 14 walks en-route to posting a .400 OBP.
Dini becomes the second Wagner student-athlete to garner weekly recognition by the league this season and the first since senior RHP
Ryan Van Spronsen (Brantford, Ontario / Assumption College) back on March 12, following his complete-game victory over Jacksonville. He also earns the Seahawks' first rookie citation since the 2010 season.
