Jasmine Nwajei Earns First-Team All-NEC & All-NEC Defensive Team Honors

Complete 2015 All-NEC List Nwajei's 2014-15 Game-by-Game Stats

Somerset, NJ - Wagner sophomore guard Jasmine Nwajei, who leads the nation in scoring at 24.8 points per game, and is ranked T-7th in steals per game (3.28), was named to both the 2014-2015 Northeast Conference (NEC) First Team and All-Defensive Teams, the league office announced today via Twitter.

Nwajei is the Seahawks' first player to earn All-NEC First-Team honors in 12 years, since Carrie Walker was named to the First Team in 2003.

A four-time NEC Player of the Week this season, the 5-8 New York City guard poured in a school-record 718 points in 2014-2015, hitting for 30 or more points 10 times (school-record), highlighted by a career-high 40-point outing in a 97-86 win over Columbia on December 30. This 40-point performance is the second-highest single-game performance in school history, just three points behind the 43 points scored by Seahawk Hall of Fame member Stephanie Samuels at Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU) on February 18, 1986.

The 40-point outburst by Nwajei also set a record for the most points ever scored in a game at the Spiro Center. The previous Spiro Center single-game scoring mark of 38 points was set by Quinnipiac's Ashlee Kelly (vs. FDU in NEC Tournament, 3/5/04) and matched by Fairleigh Dickinson's Mariyah Laury in a regular season game vs. Wagner (2/7/11).

During one particularly memorable stretch in early January, Nwajei, whose career scoring average of 21.3 is tops in Seahawk history, received a trio of accolades when was named College Sports Madness Mid-Major Player of the WeekCorvias ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Co-Player of the Week, while also copping NEC Player of the Week honors. On February 17, Nwajei collected another major honor when she was named Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Division I Player of the Week, At the conclusion of the 2014-15 campaign, which marked the 17th season of NEC Women's Basketball, Nwajei ranks second all-time in both NEC overall single-season scoring average (24.8) and in NEC games (25.8).

The first sophomore in program history to reach 1,000-point career mark, Nwajei will enter her junior season in 2015-2016 with 1,235  points scored, which ranks 14th on the Seahawk all-time scoring list, and within 600 of Samuels' school-record point total of 1,835, which she amassed from 1982-1986.

In 2014-2015, the Seahawks had one of the nation's youngest rosters, an 11-person unit that featured two juniors, six sophomores and three freshmen that went 7-22
overall and 5-13 in NEC play, capping the season with Monday night's impressive 66-60 win at Robert Morris.

Without a single senior on this year's roster, the 2015-2016 Seahawks will return all 11 letterwinners and all five starters.
