Dominique Williams Takes Part In Minnesota Vikings' Rookie Minicamp

Eden Praire, MN - Former Wagner star running back Dominique Williams (Bridgeton, NJ/Milford Academy), who signed an NFL free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings on May 10, participated in the team's rookie minicamp, which was held at the Vikings' Winter Park Facility, from May 15-18.

Williams, the third-leading rusher in school history and fourth-leading rusher on the  Northeast Conference (NEC) all-time list, was one of 15 undrafted free agents who attended the minicamp among a group of more than 60 players, which also included 10 drafted rookies and tryout players. The headliners of the Vikings' 2014 draft are a pair of first-round picks in linebacker Anthony Barr out of UCLA and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater who starred at Louisville.

In signing with the Vikings, Williams became the third Seahawk to sign an NFL free agent deal with an NFL club team in as many years, joining linebackers Julian Stanford, who inked a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012, and C.O. Prime, a 2013 signee of the Indianapolis Colts.

Stanford wound up earning a spot on the Jaguars' 2012 roster, becoming the first Seahawk to make an active NFL roster since Wagner Hall of Fame member Rich Kotite, a tight end with the New York Giants from 1967 to 1972. During the 2013 season, Stanford signed a free agent deal with the Detroit Lions where he currently remains a member of the team's active roster.

While Prime did not make the Colts' roster, he wound up signing with the Montreal Alouettes in his native Canada, where he contributed to the team's run to the Grey Cup, the Canadian Football League's (CFL) championship game.

During the course of his highly-decorated Seahawk career, which spanned from 2009-2013, the 5-9, 205-pound Williams evolved into one of the household names in, not only Wagner history, as well as on the national stage.

A tough, sturdy and elusive running back, Williams ended his storied career ranked third all-time in Wagner history in both rushing yards (4,435) and scoring (276 points). In 43 career games, he rushed for 42 touchdowns and snared four touchdown catches as a receiver out of the backfield, while rushing for 100 yards or more on 26 occasions.

In addition to finishing fourth on the NEC All-Time career rushing list, Williams, the 2014 South Jersey Football Foundation Player of the Year, also wound up fourth in NEC history in all-purpose yards (5,444).

After bursting onto the scene with 642 rushing yards as a true freshman in 2009, Williams suffered a knee injury on the final day of the 2010 preseason training that required surgery and extensive rehabilitation that caused him sit out the season. His work ethic and character allowed him to return to the field in 2011, where he ripped off the first of three straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

In 2013, Williams became the first three-time captain in Seahawk history, and went on to rush for 1,127 yards, which came on the heels of his 1,228-yard season in 2012 and his 1,338-yard campaign in 2011. A member of the 2012 College Sports Journal All-American team, Williams was named First-Team All-NEC in 2012 and was a second-team selection in 2013.

The  pinnacle of his career came in 2012 when he helped lead Wagner to its first-ever appearance in the of NCAA FCS Playoffs and ensuing 31-20 first-round victory over Colgate, which marked the first time an NEC school had ever won an NCAA Playoff game.

The historical 2012 season saw Wagner rip off nine consecutive wins after dropping its first three contests en route to a 9-4 record and a final ranking of No. 21 in The Sports Network Final Top-25 Poll No. 22 in the Final FCS Coaches Poll. This marked the first time an NEC team ended the season with an appearance in both official Top-25 polls.

Following the season, veteran Seahawk head coach Walt Hameline was inducted into the New Jersey Sports Writers Association Hall of Fame after earning 2012 FCS Coach of the Year honors by the College Football News (CFN) and College Sports Journal  (CSJ), in addition to being named 2012 NEC Coach of the Year.
