Philadelphia, Penn. — In the final midweek game of the season, Wagner suffered a 12-2 loss on Wednesday at Penn.
Wrapping up the midweek slate before rounding out the season with three more Northeast Conference series, the Seahawks hit the road and ran into a stronger offense in the Quakers.
The Seahawks were able to put up five hits, held off by strong outings from three Penn pitchers. Graduate Lukas Torres was big in the lead-off spot, going 1-of-1 with one run scored and an RBI. Sophomore Joseph Mennella also pushed a run in, 1-of-3 with an RBI.
Graduate Xavier Ulrich and freshman Matt Sutera were the only Wagner batters to work a walk. Sophomore Connor Roche added a hit as well — Sutera and Roche both hit doubles to account for the Seahawks' two extra-base hits in the game.
Wagner did get some help from the Quakers' pitching, with four free bases via hit batter. Torres was hit twice.
Senior Sam Bonilla was Wagner's most efficient arm out of the bullpen, going 1.2 innings starting in the fourth. Entering with one out, he struck out a batter and induced a groundout. In the fifth, he struck out the leadoff Penn batter then forced a pop up and line out for the first clean inning since the first.
Next up, the Seahawks host CCSU for a home NEC series this weekend, beginning with a 3 p.m. EST game Friday, May 2. The games will be held in Trenton, New Jersey at the Trenton Thunder Ballpark.
