Staten Island, NY - The Wagner baseball team suffered a 6-3 loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday.
It was a pitcher's duel for a majority of the contest with sophomore Zach Gorman battling Noah Covington.
Gorman drew his first start of the season and allowed no earned runs across 6.2 innings. The Freehold, New Jersey native induced ten groundouts and struck out four batters.
When Gorman was removed from the contest he was in line for the win as Wagner held a 2-1 advantage.Â
Senior Cody Bey stole second base in the first inning, allowing junior Chris Conniff to advance home on the throw. After the Hawks tied the game up in the second inning, Bey produced an RBI single to put the Seahawks ahead.
The lead stood until the eighth inning when Maryland-Eastern Shore rallied to score four runs on one hit. Two errors by the Seahawks kept the inning alive, allowing the Hawks to piece together their first lead of the game.
While sophomore Matthew Kenney homered in the ninth to make it a 6-3 game, it was too late as Wagner was dealt a late-inning loss.Â
The Seahawks will be going for their fifth Northeast Conference (NEC) series victory when the teams take the field on Sunday at noon.
