Riverdale, NY –
The Wagner men's lacrosse team took an early 2-0 lead and fought gallantly throughout before dropping its second consecutive one-goal game as Manhattan held on for a 7-6 victory.

The loss, which comes on the heels of an 8-7 defeat to Canisius on April 18, drops the Seahawks' record to 0-11, 0-5 in the MAAC with three games remaining. The Jaspers improved to 5-7 on the season, 3-2 in the MAAC.

Wagner took its 2-0 lead on goals by freshman midfielder Colin O'Rourke ( Worcester, MA/St. John's Shrewsbury) and sophomore midfielder Cory Perkins (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep). The Jaspers then countered with five unanswered goals to make it a 5-2 game. Undaunted, Wagner answered with goals by junior midfielder Tim Schweitzer (Babylon, NY/Babylon) and O'Rourke to head into halftime down by just a 5-4 count.

With 10:52 left in the game, Manhattan's Joe Variano notched a goal to make it 6-4 but that goal was answered just 11 seconds later when freshman attack Cody Isdaner found the back of the net at the 10:41 mark to again make it a one-goal game 6-5. After the Jaspers' Justin Jensen scored with 5:02 left, O'Rourke tallied his second goal of the game off an assist by William Hedges (Shoreham, NY/Longwood) with 3:43 to go which made it a 7-6 game as Manhattan held on for the win.

O'Rourke led Wagner offensively with three goals while senior goalie Michael Gutkin (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) recorded eight daves.

Statistically, the Seahawks out-shot Manhattan 33-30, led in ground balls 35-33 while winning 10-of-17 face-offs.

Wagner is next in action on Saturday, April 24 when the Seahawks travel to VMI to meet the Keydets in a 1:00 pm face-off.
