Lewisburg, PA – The Wagner men's water polo team finished the first day of the two-day Bison Invitational tournament, hosted by Bucknell University, with a 20-8 victory over Mercyhurst University, followed by a 9-6 win over Gannon University.

With today's victories, the Seahawks improve to 5-4 on the season. On day two of the Bison Invitational on Sunday, Wagner will meet the University of Toronto at 10:30 a.m. before squaring off with Salem International University at 4:45 p.m.

Game 1
Wagner 20 Mercyhurst 7

Wagner was sparked by a trio of freshmen in game one, as Jasmin Kolasinac (Belgrade, Serbia/ King's College), lefty Jack Leighton (Lake Forest, CA/El Toro), and 2M András Bimbó-Szuhai (Oradea, Romania / Ady Endre Líceum) accounted for 16 goals as the Seahawks defeated Mercyhurst, 20-8 on Saturday morning.

Kolasinac led the way by tallying nine goals while also collecting six steals in the victory. Leighton found the back of the net five times while Bimbó-Szuhai netted a goal as well. Junior driver James Grady (Boca Raton, FL / Boca Raton [San Jose State University]) added two scores while second-year drivers Oscar Nomura (Irvine, CA/Irvine) and Tanner Kaplan (Trabuco Canyon, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic) added one goal apiece.

Leighton, as well as junior driver Teo Dadic (Dubrovnik, Croatia/Gimnazija Dubrovnik [Long Beach City College]), senior utility Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia/St. Aloysius College [Golden West College]) dished out three assists in the victory.

Junior goalkeeper Cameron Woldt (San Diego, CA / Serra High School [San Diego Mesa College]) tallied six saves and five steals.

Wagner 9 Gannon 6
The second matchup concluded an undefeated first day for Wagner as the Seahawks surged past Gannon University by the count of 9-6.

Dadic paced the offense with three goals and three assists. Kolasinac added two goals of his own in the second quarter during a back and forth effort between the Seahawks and the Golden Knights as Wagner took a 4-2 lead into the intermission at halftime.

With three minutes left in the third period, Nomura, Dadic, and Aaron Leighton (Lake Forest, CA / El Toro) reeled off three consecutive goals during a stretch that carried the Seahawks to a 7-3 lead. Gannon answered, netting two goals before the end of the third period in drawing to within 7-5. That's as close as the Golden Knights would get, however, Wagner received goals from Bimbó-Szuhai and Dadic in solidifying the win.

Senior utility Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia / St. Aloysius College [Golden West College]) scored the game's first goal before going on to assist on two others en route to a three-point game. Cameron Woldt put up strong defensive numbers, notching 10 blocks and four steals while Leighton and Wolohan gathered three steals apiece.

The Seahawks wrap up the Bison Invitational tomorrow with matchups against University of Toronto at 10:30am and Salem International University at 4:45pm.
