Men's Water Polo Welcomes 12 Newcomers For Its Second Season on Grymes Hill

Staten Island, NY – Wagner College head men's water polo coach Chris Radmonovich welcomes 12 student-athletes to Grymes Hill for the 2017 men's water polo season. In addition to the newcomers, the Seahawks return 12 players from the inaugural 2016 roster.

"I am thrilled to announce this year's incoming class," said Radmonovich, who is entering his second year at the helm of the men's program, while entering his eighth season with the women's squad. "I am confident in this group's ability to help in further building our young program as we hope to compete for its first-ever conference championship."

The Green & White are set to compete in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) along with Bucknell, Fordham, George Washington, Johns Hopkins, and the United States Naval Academy. After falling 9-7 to Fordham in the opening round of the MAWCP Championship on November 18, 2016, Wagner captured a fifth place finish, defeating Connecticut College and Navy in the consolation rounds.

Meet The Newcomers

Jordi Alonso (Driver)
Hometown: Barcelona, Spain
A graduate of Jesuites Sarria-Sant Ignasi, Alonso hails from Barcelona, Spain where he was a decorated member of Club Natació Rubí. For the past year, the Spanish native has played in the Honor Division Senior Spanish League. Prior to his stint in the Honors Division, Alonso competed with the U19 Catalonian State League, which took second and third place, respectively in 2014 and 2015. The sport of water polo runs in the family as Alonso's father, also named Jordi, won six Spanish Championships while playing for Club Natació Montjuic. Additionally, he was a four-year member of the Spanish National Team, which came in fourth place at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Russia.  
 
Benjamin Angulo (Driver)
Hometown: La Habra, CA
Angulo comes to Grymes Hill after three successful years on the Sonora Raiders Varsity Men's Water Polo team. Capturing second place in the Freeway League for three consecutive seasons, Angulo was named an All-League player each year. After receiving Second Team All-League and Defensive Player of the Year honors during his sophomore campaign as a goalkeeper, the California native transitioned to offense his junior year while earning First Team and Offensive Player of the Year honors. Alonso capped off his high school career with an impressive 141 goals during his senior campaign en route to earning First Team All-League honors, Sonora's Most Valuable Player, and the Rotary Club's Male Athlete of the Year award.
 
András Bimbó-Szuhai (2-Meter Guard)
Hometown: Oradea, Romania
A left-handed player from Oradea, Romania, Bimbó-Szuhai plays for UVSE Margitsziget Water Polo Club in Budapest, Hungary. The 2-meter guard has competed for a Hungarian National Championship in several age group categories and was part of the gold medal winning team on two occasions in 2016 as part of both the U16 and U18 squads. Most recently, Bimbó-Szuhai was a member of the U18 team that captured the Lemhényi Dezso Cup in 2017.
 
Jonathan Borte (Utility)
Hometown: Renton, WA
A graduate of Seattle Preparatory High School, Borte played four years of varsity water polo at the local Kentridge High School where he led his team in both scoring and steals throughout his final three seasons. He was named Most Valuable Player in both offense and defense on two occasions each, while leading his team to two undefeated Washington Interscholastic Activities Association seasons in 2016 and 2017. Borte was also a member of the year-round Northwest Water Polo Club where he participated in the 14U, 16U, and 18U Junior Olympic squads. Additionally, the utility player partook in three seasons on the Olympic Development Program Zone Team, a program that selects the top 14 kids in each age group for each zone. For three years, from 2014 to 2016, Borte represented the Pacific Northwest zone in competing for the National Championship.
 
Teo Dadic (Driver)
Hometown: Dubrovnik, Croatia
Dadic comes to Wagner after playing two years of collegiate water polo at Long Beach City College. As an attacker, Dadic helped the Vikings record a 22-7 overall in 2016 mark before falling 15-8 to Golden West in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championship. The European native registered a team-high 93 points on 60 goals and 33 assists, while defensively recording 31 steals. However, prior to the loss in 2016, Dadic scored a late overtime goal, his fourth of the match, to capture the 2015 CCCAA title over Golden West.
 
Sam del Rio (Driver)
Hometown: Erdenheim, PA
A 2017 graduate of Springfield Township High School, del Rio was a four-year member of the Spartan's water polo team. A two-time Suburban One First Team and two-time All-State selection, del Rio stands as the school's record holder in career goals with 289 as well as single season goals, cashing in 130 during his senior campaign. In addition to playing for the Spartans, the Pennsylvania native was a three-year member of the Princeton Tiger Aquatics Water Polo Club who placed fourth in the 2016 Junior Olympics 18U Gold Division.
 
Jasmin Kolasinac (Driver)
Hometown: Belgrade, Serbia
A native of Serbia, Kolasinac is a 2016 graduate from King's College in Auckland, New Zealand. Turning down the opportunity to compete in the Rio Olympics, Kolasinac chose to complete his final year of schooling, scoring over 100 goals and helping King's become the second best school team in Auckland, fifth in the nation, and seventh on the North Island. Prior to his stint in New Zealand, Kolasinac represented the Serbian National Team since he was 15 years old, winning a gold medal in the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.
 
Jack Leighton (Lefty)
Hometown: Lake Forest, CA
Younger brother of sophomore driver Aaron Leighton, Jack played three years of water polo for El Toro High School where he was an Academic All-American from 2015 to 2017. A left handed shooter, Leighton was also a decorated swimmer as a four-year member of the Chargers' swim team, where he holds the 200-yard freestyle record for both El Toro and the South Coast Conference. Alongside his brother in 2016, the duo earned High School All-American status in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Additionally, Leighton is a two-time individual High School All-American in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events.
 
Ace Macdonald (Utility)
Hometown: Philadelphia, PA
Known as Ace to everyone around him, Samuel "Ace" Macdonald was a four-year member of Germantown Academy's varsity water polo team, earning Second Team Inter-AC All-League honors and Most Valuable Defensive Player. Macdonald also played alongside fellow incoming freshman Samuel del Rio on the Princeton Tigers Water Polo club in Princeton, NJ. In addition to playing water polo, the utility player was a four-year letter winner for the Patriots varsity swim team.
 
James Parker Allen (Driver)
Hometown: Auckland, New Zealand
Former teammate of Jasmin Kolasinac, Parker Allen is also a 2016 graduate of King's College and member of the men's water polo team that became the second best school team in Auckland, fifth in the nation, and seventh on the North Island. Unable to perform any physical activity from age ten to 11 due to a back injury, Allen was selected to train for the national squad just one year later. Since then, the New Zealand native has developed a successful water polo resume, which includes winning the U18 Auckland League as a member of the Sea Wolf Water Polo Club.
 
Cameron Woldt (Goalie)
Hometown: San Diego, CA
A junior transfer from San Diego Mesa College, Woldt rejoins former teammate Devin O'Donnell on Grymes Hill. The southern Californian native saw major success in the net in 2016, leading the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) with 367 saves in 2016 en route to becoming Defensive MVP. After winning the 2015 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) title in 2015, the Olympians registered a 16-12 overall record in 2016, falling 11-8 to Grossmont in the PCAC semifinals. Prior to his stint with the Olympians, Woldt played three years of varsity water polo at Serra High School. As a two time Most Valuable Defensive Player award recipient, Woldt registered a record high 26 saves in the CIF Division 2 quarterfinals during his junior campaign.
 
Kaelin Wolf (Driver)
Hometown: Mechanicsburg, PA
Wolf was a three-year member of the Cumberland Valley varsity water polo team, where he stands as the single season record holder for assists. Additionally, he sits in the top-ten for all-time assists, steals, drawn exclusions, and points. An All-State selection, Wolf led the Eagles to a perfect 32-0 mark during his senior campaign en route to being named conference, division, and state champions. A talent in the water, Wolf was also a four-year Midd-Penn Qualifier as a member of the men's varsity swim team.
