Official Release

Danbury, CT – The postseason awards continue to roll in for members of the Wagner College baseball team as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its annual Division I Awards and All-Conference selections with three Seahawks earning accolades.

Senior RHP Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) was named to the All-ECAC First Team while junior outfielder Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) and senior RHP Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/The Hun School) were each selected to the All-ECAC Second Team.

Marsh, who was named to the All-Northeast Conference (NEC) First Team at the conclusion of the 2017 regular season, was the starter in Wagner's walk-off 6-5 victory over the top-seed, Bryant University, on day two of the recently-completed NEC Tournament. Though not factoring in the final decision, the senior right-hander recorded seven strikeouts during a seven-inning stint.

The Monroe Township, NJ native finished the 2017 regular season with a 6-2 record, highlighted by a minuscule 1.52 ERA, which topped the NEC and ranked No. 7 in the entire nation. Marsh finished among the Top-25 in the nation in that department, closing out the year with a 1.96 ERA, which was the 13th-lowest single-season ERA mark ever by a Seahawk pitcher. A 2017 co-captain, Marsh was the nation's ERA leader back on April 10, when he sported a 0.40 ERA. For the year, Marsh earned two NEC Pitcher of the Week citations while pitching two complete games. His best start of the season came back on April 30 when he struck out a career-best 11 batters over eight innings in a 12-0 victory over LIU Brooklyn.

Godino, who earned his second All-NEC First Team, was tabbed to the All-ECAC Second Team after finishing batting .328 with team-bests in runs scored (45), doubles (13), triples (4) and slugging (.569). The third-year Seahawk blasted seven home runs on the year, tying him with sophomore catcher/infielder Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) for second on the squad, to go along with 17 stolen bases. The 2015 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American accounted for 17 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games, both first on the Seahawk squad. Starting in all 50 games for the Green & White, Godino was a key factor in helping Wagner punch a ticket to the 2017 NEC Tournament. Batting out of the leadoff spot against Mount St. Mary's on May 20, Godino went 3-for-5 against in the regular season finale, with two runs scored and three RBIs. His leadoff home run set the tone for the afternoon as the Seahawks went on to win, 7-3.

For his performance in the series finale, Godino was named NEC Player of the Week. In the three postseason games, the Thornwood, NY native batted .308 (4-for-13) with two runs scored, two doubles, three walks, and four RBIs. In the opener against the eventual champions, Central Connecticut, Godino went 2-for-5 and was responsible for the game's first two runs as his double in the top of the fifth broke a scoreless tie. In the second elimination game of the day on May 27, Godino once again kicked off the scoring with a RBI grounder to short that gave Wagner a 1-0 lead. As the game went into extra innings, Godino recorded the then go-ahead run when he singled through the left side in the top of the 11th, giving the Seahawks a 3-2 edge.

Goeke, who joins Godino on the All-ECAC Second Team, closed out his collegiate career by earning All-NEC First-Team honors. The 6-5 right-hander finished the year with a 6-2 record while posting a 2.55 ERA, good for second in the league behind Marsh. Goeke limited the opposition to a league-low .185 batting average. A three-time NEC Pitcher of the Week, Goeke finished the season with 83 strikeouts, good for second in the conference and the third-highest total in single-season for a Seahawk pitcher, passing former Seahawk, Joe Testa ('08), who struck out 82 batters in 2007 and 80 in 2008. Goeke was just one punchout shy of tying current Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and former Green & White hurler, Andrew Bailey ('06), who had 84 strikeouts in 2004.

In this season's NEC Tournament, the Bordentown, NJ native was the game one starter against Central Connecticut, when he went 7.2 innings, yielding just three hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out eight in the 134-pitch outing.
