Somerset, NJ – For the second time this season, Wagner senior co-captain RHP
Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon. Prior to today's announcement, Marsh garnered the weekly honors back on March 27.
Additionally, Marsh joins teammate, senior RHP
Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/The Hun School) as two-time recipients of the award this season as Goeke was named NEC Pitcher of the Week on April 17 and March 6.
Marsh lowered his league-leading earned-run average by spinning eight shutout innings in a win over local rival, LIU Brooklyn, on Sunday afternoon. Claiming his fifth win of the season in Wagner's 12-0 victory in the series finale over the Blackbirds, the senior right-hander scattered six hits (all singles) and one walk while registering a career-best 11 strikeouts during the 115-pitch outing. During his outing, Marsh fanned at least one batter in every inning.
After LIU's Chris Misiano singled to lead off the game, Marsh retired the next ten Blackbirds he faced. The Monroe Township, NJ native did not allow a runner to advance past second base until there two outs in the eighth inning and he quickly extinguished the threat with an inning-ending strikeout.
In five of his nine outings this season, Marsh has posted five or more strikeouts and over his last four conference starts, he is 3-1 with a 1.24 ERA while going the distance in two of those contests (April 23 at Sacred Heart-2 & March 25 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson).
Marsh leads all NEC-pitchers with a 1.10 ERA,
which is also good for fifth among all NCAA Division I pitchers through games played on April 30.
The Seahawks head to Rutgers University on Tuesday, May 2.
