Staten Island, NY –Wagner head men's tennis head coach
Jason Sinkoff, who will embark on his second season at the helm of the Wagner men's tennis program, has announced the signing of two incoming freshmen along with an incoming sophomore for the 2016-17 season.
Siddharth Anand, Anatoliy Lashkul, and
Hans Ohrner, who hail from India, Ukraine, and Florida, respectively, round out Coach Sinkoff's class of 2020.
"I'm very excited about this incoming class and expect all three to challenge for starting spots," said Sinkoff.
"They are going to make us a stronger team. Siddharth, Anatoliy and Hans know what our goals and expectations are and will help us succeed on and off the court."
In addition to the three incoming recruits, the Seahawks will welcome back their entire starting lineup from this past season. They bring back all six singles starters, headed by All-Northeast Conference (NEC) Second-Team selection
Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) and All-Northeast Conference Rookie Team choices,
Dale Sandy (Durban, South Africa/Kersney College Secondary School) and
Ilya Kneppelhout (Woubrugge, Netherlands/Scala College Secondary School).
Meet the incoming class…
Siddharth Anand
Hometown: New Delhi, India
Previous School: Modern School Barakhamba Road
Before Wagner: Anand played five years under the direction of Mr. Vinod Kumar… Three-time team captain who captured 13 individual titles… Four-time Most Valuable Player selection … Finished 19-0 during senior season player, the only player not to lose a match … Versatile athlete who was a top long-distance runner,, claiming first place in three School Marathons (2009, 2010, 2011 )… Also competed on school swim team as well as earning tennis singles title in 2011 and 2012 … Has one sister, Varda … Son of Chandra Veer Anand and Shubhra Anand… Plans on majoring in Finance and minoring in Psychology at Wagner.
Coach Sinkoff on Siddharth: "Sid is going to bring a lot of energy to our team. He trains very hard and has a game that can develop at the college level. He's very consistent from the baseline and is always looking for opportunities to attack and get to the net. He has a lot of tournament experience, and I am excited to work with him on his game this year."
Anatoliy Lashkul
Hometown: Kiev, Ukraine
Previous School: Cumberland University | High School #78
Before Wagner: Lashkul spent the 2015-16 campaign at Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN … Playing primarily out of the No. 1 Flight position in both singles and doubles action, Lashkul posted a 9-13 overall record, while going 4-3 in tournament matches … In doubles play, Lashkul compiled an 8-8 dual record and was 14-11 overall on the season … Earned his first win in September at the Campbellsville Classic, earning a 6-4; 5-7; 10-6 triumph over Raul Mendez of Lindsey Wilson … In his native Ukraine, Lashkul has trained with under some of the top tennis coaches, several of whom are members of Davis Cup and FedEx Cup coaching staffs … Son of Sergey Lashkul and Irina Postolovskaya … Hs three siblings, Volodymyer, Darya and Alexandra … Plans on majoring in Business Administration at Wagner.
Coach Sinkoff on Anatoliy: "Anatoliy played No.1 for a ranked NAIA program. He understands what it takes to play at the top of the lineup and will be able to push everyone to become better. He has great footwork and his aggressive style will allow him to make an impact right away."
Hans Ohrner
Hometown: Margate, FL
Previous School: Coral Springs Christian Academy
Before Wagner: Ranked a three-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, Ohrner comes to Grymes Hill as the No. 40-ranked player in the Top 100 in the state of Florida … During the 2015-16 campaign, posted a 10-0 record against two-star opponents, according to TennisRecruiting.net … At Coral Springs Christian Academy, Ohrner graduated with an honors diploma and was a member of the National Honor Society, Environmental Club and Junior State of America … In addition to playing tennis for the Crusaders, he participated on the track & field squad during his junior semester, in which he broke the school record with a time of 4:48.00 … Son of Hans and Elizabeth, Ohrner has one sibling, Stephanie … He plans on studying English and Film/Media Studies at Wagner.
Coach Sinkoff on Hans: "Hans has an incredible work ethic and has put in the time to make his game reach another level from when I first recruited him. He is very athletic and with his experience in running track, I know he is coming to school in great shape. He will push the other guys and will help us a lot in both singles and doubles play."
