Daytona Beach, FL – Led by freshman Lucas Moreno (Bogota, Colombia / Gimnasio Campestre) who finished in a tie for third place and junior Anton Frondelius (Munkedal, Sweden /The Gunnery), who tied for ninth after shooting a final round 70, the Wagner men's golf team claimed its first-ever Northeast Conference championship today, outlasting Bryant on the second hole of a playoff.

The Green & White, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Christopher Fourman, a former Seahawk himself, entered today's final round of the 54-hole championship at four-under par, nine strokes ahead of Bryant. As the afternoon wore on, the Bulldogs slowly and steadily cut into the Wagner lead, eventually recording the low round of the day, a four-man score of even par 288.

After shooting seven-under 281 and three-over 291 in the first two rounds, respectively, the Seahawks shot a nine-over par 297 today, leaving Wagner and Bryant tied at 869 apiece following regulation play.

The playoff format calls for all five golfers from each team to tee it off with the title going to the team that accrues the lowest four-man score on any given hole. Tied after one hole, the Seahawks won it on the second hole of the playoff.

Moreno was atop the individual leaderboard most of the day and appeared in control following a birdie at the par-5 16th hole which moved him to four-under par for the championship. After parring the par-3 17th, he double-bogeyed the demanding 472-yard, par-4 18th hole, however, to finish with a two-over 74, while Bryant's Ryan Tombs made par on 18 to give him a final round three-under 69.

The turn of events at the home hole not only left the teams dead even, it also placed Tombs in a tie with Fairleigh Dickinson's U Minn Woon for the individual title at three-under par 213. Following the team playoff, Tombs and Woon engaged in a playoff to determine the individual championship which was won by the FDU junior.

Sophomore Erik Tedfelt (Malmo, Sweden / National Golf Program) finished in a tie for 15th (+7), while seniors Matt Kraus (Livingston, NJ / Montclair Kimberley Academy [+8]) and Conor McKiernan (Willoughby Hills, OH / Saint Ignatius [+10]) finished in tied for 17th and 22nd, respectively.

"I am so proud of our men. Even with a disappointing finish down the stretch in regulation, we came together at the most important time of the tournament and never gave up," Fourman said. "Bryant had us on the ropes on numerous occasions, they played great golf. But we set out at the beginning of the year to win and our guys just hit the right shots at the right time to put us on top."
