Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ /Manasquan) was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Offensive Player of the Week while senior goalie
Katie Ferraro (Owings Mill, MD / McDonough) earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
Gegan was a top performer for the Seahawks last week as she tallied eight points off of six goals and two assists, and added four draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers as Wagner swept a pair of NEC road matches. In Wagner's 8-6 victory at Sacred Heart on Friday, the senior netted two goals while tacking on an assist, two groundballs and a caused turnover.
Two days later the Belmar, NJ native recorded four goals and an assist, to go along with four draw controls and a caused turnover as the Seahawks defeated LIU Brooklyn, 15-9. Gegan ranks third in the NEC in points per game (3.38) and assists per game (1.15), sixth in goals per game (2.23) and second in caused turnovers per game (2.62).
This marks the 13th time in her illustrious career, and third time this season, and second consectuve week that Gegan has taken home NEC weekly honors. Last week, Gegan was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week while her first weekly honor came on March 7 when she earned Player of the Week honors.
Gegan shares this week's award with sophomore attacker Kylie Sullivan of Central Connecticut.
Ferraro, meanwhile, came up big in net for the Seahawks in a pair of NEC wins at Sacred Heart and LIU Brooklyn. The senior combined for 13 saves, recording a 6.78 goals against average and .542 save percentage. In the 8-6 win over Sacred Heart on Friday, Ferraro turned away five shots and allowed just six goals in an 8-6 triumph.
Two days later, the Owings Mill, MD product had eight saves in her 37:19 minutes of action while yielding five goals in the 15-9 victory. Ferraro ranks second in the league with a 8.67 goals against average and .477 save percentage. Ferraro shares this week's Defensive Player of the Week honor with Central Connecticut's freshman goalie Jackie Branthover.
Heading down the stretch of the NEC regular season, Wagner finds itself in a three-way tie for the top spot in the league standing as the Seahawks, Bryant and Robert Morris, all have matching 3-1 conference records.
The Seahawks will look to continue their winning ways when they host Mount St. Mary's in a Senior Day matchup vs. the Mountaineers on Saturday, April 23. Opening draw at Hameline Field is set for 1:00 p.m.
