Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan) has been named Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week after forcing a career-high 11 caused turnovers, which is the NCAA Division I single-game record this season, in helping to lead Wagner to a 15-4 win over Central Connecticut in the April 8 legue opener for both teams.
In addition, she collected a game-high seven groundballs vs. the Blue Devils, which was the third-highest output of her career and three shy of the career-high 10 that she scooped up at Columbia (3/27/15).
On April 10, the 5-10 Gegan scored one goal to go with three groundballs and two caused turnovers in a defensive-mined 7-4 loss to first-place Bryant. For the week, Gegan was credited with four points (2g, 2a), on six shots, along with 13 caused turnovers, 10 groundballs and three draw controls.
This marks the 12th time in her illustrious career, and second time this season, that Gegan has taken home NEC weekly honors. On March 7, Gegan copped player of the week honors after scoring five consecutive goals in the second half en route to a career-high six-goal performance in an 11-9 win over Saint Joseph's.
For the season, the 2015 NEC Midfielder of the Year and First-Team All-NEC selection, Gegan leads the Seahawks in six major statistical categories with 23 goals, 13 assists, 36 points, 33 caused turnovers, 25 draw controls and 25 groundballs.
The 2015 national leader in caused turnovers and ground balls, Gegan ranks among the top six in these six categories on the Wagner all-time career list.

Wagner now hits the road for two straight, traveling to Sacred Heart on Friday, April 15 for a 3:00 p.m. matchup with the Pioneers before squaring off at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, April 17 in an 11:00 a.m. start.
