Boston, MA – As the calendar turns from the dogs days of summer to the final month of the Major League Baseball (MLB) season, and in the midst of a tightly-contested American League (AL) East pennant race, a former Seahawk will return to the big leagues for the first time since 2013 as the New York Yankees have announced that Andrew Bailey ('06) has been recalled from Scranton Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees).

One of eight minor leaguers that received the call-up as MLB rosters now increase from 25 to 40, Bailey is working his way back from right shoulder surgery. Since being promoted to Scranton Wilkes-Barre back on July 31, the right-hander has appeared in nine games for the RailRiders, the Voorhees Township, NJ native has tossed 12.1 innings of relief with a 2.19 ERA. In addition, Bailey was a perfect 4-for-4 in save opportunities while striking out 13 batters and allowing just three walks (4.33:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio).

From June 28 until his promotion to Triple-A, Bailey was a dominant member of the Trenton Thunder (Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees).  At Trenton, he appeared in 11 games, posting a 1-0 record with a miniscule 0.63 ERA with two saves in three chances. In his 14.1 innings pitched, he limited batters to just a .125 average with 17 strikeouts while issuing just six free passes.

The Yankees, who are trailing the Toronto Blue Jays by 1.5 games in the AL East, resume their series this evening against their long-time rivals, the Boston Red Sox. Coincidentally, it is against the same team that Bailey last pitched for in the major leagues.
