Tucson, AZ – Wagner freshman designated hitter
Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) was named to the prestigious NCAA Division I Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team, as announced by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Wednesday afternoon.
Godino is the second current Seahawk, and third all-time, to be selected to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team in program history.
Junior
Paul Mammino (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) was selected back in 2013 after posting a 6-2 record while striking out 41 batters in 71 1/3 innings. Former Seahawk infielder
Chris Dick became the first Wagner player to earn Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American honors when he was named to the Honorable Mention squad in 2000 after batting .283 with six home runs and 20 RBIs in helping lead the Green & White to their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance.
Godino is one of two members from the Northeast Conference (NEC) to be represented for this citation, joining Bryant's starting pitcher, James Karinchak.
The first-year Seahawk is also the second member of the 2015 baseball team to be recognized as a Louisville Slugger All-American selection, joining senior catcher
Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township),
who was named to the Division I All-American Third Team squad on May 28th.
The Thornwood, NY native finished second in the league's batting race, behind Dini, while being named one of five Seahawks to the All-NEC First Team. Godino finished his first collegiate season with a .362 batting average and an on-base percentage of .478. The highlight of his 2015 campaign came in game one of an April 25 doubleheader against Central Connecticut when he went 4-for-4 with a career-best 6 RBIs in the Seahawks' 12-6 rout of the Blue Devils.
