Staten Island, NY – The awards and accolades continue to pour in for Wagner baseball's senior catcher/infielder
Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) as he was named to the 2015 American Baseball Coaches of America (ABCA) Northeast All-Region First Team.
In addition, the Monroe Township native was selected by the
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star First-Team for his sensational play this past season in leading the Seahawks to its second-straight Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament appearance.
Dini is fresh off a dominant senior season where he became
Wagner's first-ever Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Year. A First-Team All-NEC selection for the second straight year, after winning the league batting title with a .400 regular season average, the 5-9, 190-pound Dini was also named to the prestigious
Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American Third Team, as announced by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
The two-time Johnny Bench Award Watch List nominee finished the 2015 NEC regular season with an even .400 batting average, becoming just the second Seahawk to lead the circuit in hitting and first since 1993 when Jack Scholz claimed the batting title with a .418 average.
On May 9 in the first game of a doubleheader vs. eventual NEC Tournament champion Sacred Heart, Dini smashed a two-run home run over the left-field wall at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, CT that propelled him to the no. 1 spot on Wagner's all-time career hits list. The veteran backstop finished his career with 245 hits, in addition to becoming the program's all-time leader in at-bats (793), games played (215), and games started (215).
On Wednesday afternoon, Dini became fourth-year head coach
Jim Carone's 20th player drafted and sixth under his tutelage at Wagner when the Kansas City Royals selected versatile Dini in the 14th round (429 overall).
The American Baseball Coaches Association has released the 2015 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Region teams. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the
ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee. All-Region first-team selections are eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors.
