Capital One Academic All-District ® Softball Teams Official Release Greenwood, IN – Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood WA/ Lynnwood), a senior shortstop standout who led the 2015 Wagner softball team in slugging percentage (.515), batting average (.351), hits (34), and runs scored (16), while carrying a 3.90 GPA in Business Admiration, was among 72 NCAA Division I softball student-athletes from across the nation to garner First-Team Academic All-America District honors, as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Parker is on track to earn her undergraduate degree from Wagner in May and will be pursuing her Master's in Business Administration (MBA) at Wagner starting in the fall.
During her time at time Wagner, she was named to the Northeast Conference (NEC) Commissioner's List as well as the NEC Academic Honor roll all three years at Wagner while being named the 2014 NEC Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year. Off the field she is a member of SAAC and Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Honor and Leadership Society.
Parker will go down in program history after four productive years in a Seahawk uniform. The Washington native finished second in Wagner history with 414 assists, third with 22 home runs, fourth in RBIs (98) and sixth in base hits (171).
In her senior campaign, she started in all 34 games at shortstop, pacing the Seahawks with a .351 batting average, which ranked sixth in the NEC. She also paced the team in slugging percentage (.515), hits (34) and runs scored (16) while sharing team-high honors in home runs (4) and doubles (4). The shortstop was tabbed NEC player of the Week four times throughout her four years, including once this past season as she was also named to the All-NEC Second-Team.
