Staten Island, NY – Junior center Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia/ Mountain Creek) of the women's water polo team and junior outfielder
Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ/ West-Windsor Plainsboro South) of the baseball team have been named the Walsh Electric Student Athletes of the Month for March.
Lundgren earned three consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Player of the Week honors as she torched opposing teams for 57 goals over the month. In the 17 game span the Australian native compiled 87 points for an astonishing 5.12 points per game average. Lundgren was a key factor in the Seahawks 12-5 record in the month which saw the Green & White down #12 San Diego State, #14 Pacific, #19 Santa Clara and MAAC rival Marist.
Ruta ends the month of March with a hitting streak that has ballooned to 21 games as he has help lead the streaking Seahawks to six straight victories. The 6'3"outfielder sprayed the ball all over the field for a batting average of .449 over the team's 12 games. The New Jersey native added 12 runs, 11 RBI and 1 home run to round out his impressive month. The highlight of Ruta's month was his three hit, four RBI performance in the Green & White's 9-3 win over Northeastern which triggered the current win streak.
