Today's game one victory extended the Seahawks' winning streak to five straight games.
The Green & White scored first as junior outfielder
Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ /West-Windsor Plainsboro South) extended his hit streak to 20 consecutive games delivering an RBI double that scored senior outfielder
Trey Nicosia (State College, PA/State College Area). Senior
Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville) then ripped an RBI single that brought Ruta home from second base to give Wagner a 2-0 advantage.
The Seahawks tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the third. Mazurkiewicz singled in Nicosia for the third Seahawk run of the game. With two men out, freshman third baseman
Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) recorded his first collegiate RBI, connecting on a single through the right side, scoring Ruta and giving Wagner a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, senior catcher
Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) reached on a single, was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman DH
Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY / Pleasantville), stole third, and proceeded to score a wild pitch by NYIT's starting pitcher Matt Diaz, making it a 5-0 game.
NYIT erupted for six runs in the top of the sixth as the Bears batted around in the inning. Anthony Martelli drove in the first run with a single. Junior left-handed reliever
Paul Mammino (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) was brought in to replace starter
Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/The Hun School), who left after a 5.1 inning outing that featured a career-high eight strikeouts.
After a seven-pitch walk was issued by Mammino to Gerson Sotolongo, the Garden State native settled in to strike out second baseman Michael Iglesias before left fielder Frank Sanacore singled up the middle, scoring Louis Mele for the second run of the inning. Junior right-hander
Nathan Hunt (Kirtland, OH/Hawken School) came on for Mammino and threw two wild pitches and issued two walks which led to four runs and a 6-5 NYIT lead.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Mazurkiewicz recorded his third hit of the game, a single, to give the Seahawks a chance. Sophomore outfielder
Evan Fardella (Bartonsville, PA/Pocono Mountain East) was brought in to run for Mazurkiewicz. Senior outfielder
Zack Yesko (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago) then singled, advancing Fardella to second. After Mazzio sent a single for his second hit of the contest, freshman infielder
Phil Dickinson (Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) pinch-hit for freshman
Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South).
Dickinson reached on a fielder's choice as NYIT's Martelli was charged with an error, bringing Fardella in to score, tying the contest at 6-6. The Seahawks then pushed across the game-winning run when NYIT second baseman Michael Iglesias misplayed a ball off the bat of sophomore shortstop
Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ/Seton Hall Prep), allowing Yesko to scamper home with the game-winning run as Wagner celebrated its fifth straight win.
