Staten Island, NY – The red-hot Wagner baseball team rolled to a 12-3 win over New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in game two of Sunday's afternoon doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark as the Seahawks extended their winning streak to six straight games.

In game one, Wagner plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in posting a 7-6 comeback win.

After opening the season 0-8-1, the Green & White are now 6-8-1 on the season while the Bears fall to 3-8.

Fifth-year senior Matt Morris (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) picked up his first victory of the 2015 season as the veteran left-hander pitched 4.0 innings of no-hit ball while striking out six batters while surrendering just two walks on the afternoon. Morris set down the first seven Bears he faced before yielding a walk to Gerson Sotolongo.

Fellow senior Max Schmardel (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional) pitched 3.0 innings of four-hit ball in relief of Morris as the 6-5 right-hander struck out three batters. The tandem of Evon Previte (Raritan, NJ/Immaculata) and Steven Bloodworth (Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) combined to keep the NYIT bats at bay, pitching 1 1/3 innings of shutout ball without allowing a Bears' hit.

The Green & White scored three unearned runs in the bottom half of the third inning as NYIT committed two errors in the stanza with freshman Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/ Salesianum School [DE]) scoring on a throwing error by third baseman, Louis Mele. Mazzio finished the game 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Wagner added a run in the bottom half of the fifth as junior outfielder Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ/West-Windsor Plainsboro South) sent a towering double that reached the outfield wall, scoring senior outfielder Trey Nicosia (State College, PA/State College Area). After flying out and striking out in his first two at-bats, Ruta has now recorded a hit in 21 straight contests while batting .462 during this streak (36-for-78). Ruta went 3-for-5 with a career-best 4 RBIs in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Seahawks' bats were on display in the bottom of the seventh and eighth as Wagner recorded four runs in each of these innings while recording nine of their 15 total hits in the process.

Wagner returns to action on Tuesday, March 31, as the Seahawks travel to Queens, NY to take on the St. John's Red Storm. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm and the game will be streamed on ESPN 3 via the WatchESPN app.
