Lowell, MA – Redshirt-Sophomore midfielder Patrick McMenamin (Longport, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) scored three goals and dished out one assist while junior midfielder Paul DeVita (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), along with freshmen Billy Orme (Great Falls, VA/Langley) and Andrew Streilein (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), each notched a pair of goals to lead the Wagner men's lacrosse team to a 14-6 win at UMass Lowell this afternoon.

In notching their first victory of the season, which comes on the heels of Tuesday's competitive 13-10 loss at Big 10 member Rutgers, the Seahawks improve to 1-2 on the season while the River Hawks, who are in their first season competing at the Division I level, fall to 0-3.

Wagner took a 7-5 halftime lead before scoring the first eight goals of the second half, which made it a 9-0 run overall bridging the halves. Orme closed the first-half scoring with a tally at the 1:32 mark off a feed from classmate and fellow midfielder J.P. Pawela (Montgomery Village, MD / St. John's College) which made it 7-5.

Yet another freshman midfielder, Kyle McGinley (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) then opened the second-half scoring with an unassisted goal to make it an 8-5 game at the 10:34 mark of the third quarter. The Seahawks would score three more times in the quarter on a pair of DeVita goals and another by Orme, in extending the lead to 11-5 entering the fourth quarter.

Wagner then its offensive barrage in the fourth quarter with scores from senior attackman David DeCirce (Clarence, NY/Clarence), Patrick McMenamin, off an assist from junior attackman Billy Battaglia (Madison, NJ/Madison) and senior midfielder Cory Santor (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury), the latter of which came with 1:28 left to play, completing the 9-0 run and extending the lead to 14-5.

UMass Lowell's Sam Klingsporn then rounded out the day's scoring, netting a goal at the 1:07 mark in fashioning the 14-6 final score. This was one of a team-high three  goals on the day for Klingsporn, while John Phillips added one goal and Matthew Balter had one for the River Hawks.

In addition to Patrick McMenamin's four points, other offensive stalwarts for the Green & White on the day included DeVita (2 G, 2 A, 4 PTS), Streilein (2 G, 1 A, 3 PTS),
Battaglia ( 1 G, 2 A, 3 PTS), Pawela (1 G, 2 A, 3 PTS), Orme (2 G, 2 PTS), while McGinley, DeCirce and Santor finished with one goal apiece.

In goal, junior Anthony Peruso (Warwick, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) was rock-solid, allowing just six goals, including just the one late goal in the second half, while recording nine saves in a 58:53 stint. Sophomore David Hwang (Happauge, NY/Happauge), a transfer from Hofstra, made his first appearance as a Seahawk, coming on with 1:07 left to play, and did not see a shot on goal.

Statistically, Wagner out-shot UMass Lowell 46-35, held a 38-28 edge in ground balls and won 13-of-24 faceoffs. Redshirt-sophomore midfielder William McMenamin, the Seahawks' top faceoff man a year ago before suffering a mid-season injury that sidelined him the rest of the way, was 6-of-11 in the circle, while freshman Brian Hadley (Summit, NJ/Summit) was an impressive 4-of-8 on faceoffs.

On the afternoon, Wagner was 2-of-6 on extra-man opportunities while the River Hawks were 1-of-3 on EMOs. The Seahawks did a nice job of ball security in this contest, turning it over just 11 times while forcing UMass Lowell into committing 17 turnovers.

The Green & White are next in action on Tuesday, March 3 when they travel to local rival Monmouth for a 3:00 p.m. faceoff in a game that was originally scheduled to be played on February 17 but was postponed due to inclement weather.
