Smithfield, RI –
A school-record five members of the Wagner women's lacrosse team earned All-Northeast Conference (NEC) honors last night, headed by sophomore midfielder Shea Gegan (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan) who was named Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first student-athlete in program history to earn an individual honor.

In a vote of the conference's eight head coaches, Gegan was also tabbed First-Team All-NEC, along with senior defender Caitlin Daly (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood), sophomore attackers Stephanie Peterson (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) and Kimmy Tumolo (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview) were named to Second-Team All-NEC while freshman midfielder Olivia Streilein (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) earned a spot on the NEC All-Rookie Team.

Gegan, the current Division I caused turnover (CT) leader, averaged 3.81 CT per game, NJ is the focal point of a Wagner defense that limited conference opponents to just under eight points per game, the second-best mark in the league. The Seahawks also hold the nation's best 13.94 CT per contest. Gegan ranks first in the NEC in ground balls (58), third in assists per game (1.12) and eighth in points per game (2.88).

The 5-10 Gegan closed the regular season by winning three straight NEC Defensive Player of the Week Awards in leading the Green & White to a pair of road wins, which upped the Seahawks' winning streak to six games, that allowed the Seahawks to secure the No. 2 seed in the this weekend's conference tournament.

In guiding Wagner to an impressive 9-6 road win over a 10-win Robert Morris team on April 25, the 5-10 Gegan scored two goals, going 2-of-2 on free-position shots, collected a career-high nine ground balls and matched her career high with eight caused turnovers. Two days later, Gegan played a pivotal role in Wagner's 16-10 win at Saint Francis U, equaling her career high with four goals, which came on perfect 4-of-4 shooting, while also contributing two groundballs, two caused turnovers and one draw control.

Now up to No. 4 nationally in groundballs per game (3.63), Gegan is the Seahawks' team leader in points (46), assists (18), shooting percentage (.538), caused turnovers (60) and groundballs (58,) while ranking second on the team with 28 goals.

For her career, Gegan is already the Seahawk all-time leader in caused turnovers with 102. In addition, she owns the top two spots in the Seahawk single-season record book. Her 60 caused turnovers this season rank No. 1 all-time, a mark that shattered her own previous single-season mark of 42, which she set last season en route to earning a spot on the 2013 NEC All-Rookie Team. In addition, Gegan's 58 ground balls this season rank third on the Seahawk all-time single-season list.

Daly has been a defensive stalwart for the Seahawks throughout her four-year career, never more so than in 2014 when she finished second in the NEC, trailing only Gegan, with 28 caused turnovers. In her second season serving as a tri-captain for the Seahawks, Daly was second on the Seahawks with 32 groundballs.

Peterson and Tumolo, who represent the Wagner offense on the second team, have each delivered their share of spectacular moments for the Seahawks this season. Peterson led team with 30 goals this season while Tumolo is the Seahawks' third-leading goal scorer (26) and ranks fourth in scoring (31). The attackers led a Seahawk offense that averaged a second-best 12.86 goals per game in conference action. Peterson poured in five goals to key to Wagner 14-7 home victory over Manhattan on March 5. Most recently, the offensive dyname capped the regular season with a four-goal affair to help stake Wagner to a 16-10 victory at Saint Francis U.

Tumolo was in the middle of the action in a host of games this season, including the pivotal 15-6 win over Mount St. Mary's on April 19. In this contest, which clinched Wagner's first NEC Tournament berth in nine years, Tumolo tallied a hat trick.

Streilein's rookie season nwas highlighted by winning consecutive NEC Rookie of the Week honors on April 14 and April 21. Streilein posted the clutch game-winning goal with just 2:12 left on the clock in the 10-9 win at Sacred Heart on April 13, in addition to recording two critical caused turnovers, as well as two ground balls vs. the Pioneers. Two days earlier, the South Jersey product tallied a goal and two caused turnovers in the Seahawks 19-11 victory at LIU Brooklyn.  Streilein followed that effort with a career-high five goal, two-assist outing in the April 19 win over the Mount en route to her second consecuitve NEC Rookie of the Week honor.

The No. 2 seed Seahawks will meet No. 3 seed Robert Morris on Friday, May 2 at 7:00 pm in one NEC Tournament semifinal game, with No. 1 seed Bryant facing No. 4 seed Central Connecticut in the first semifinal matchup at 4:00 pm. The entire four-team NEC Tournament is held at on the campus of the No. 1 seed, thus Friday's semifinal contests, and Sunday's 1:00 pm championship game, will be held at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.

Wagner, under the direction of first-year head coach Liz Frisoli, is playing in its first NEC Tourney since 2005 and the six NEC wins ties the 2005 team (6-2) for the most league wins in program history. The Seahawks enter Friday's first-round tilt just one victory shy of tying the school-record of 11 wins that was achieved in 2002.
