Staten Island, NY -
Wagner erased an early six-run deficit en route to posting a 10-7 victory over Rutgers and former coach Joe Litterio in non-conference action at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

The Seahawks notched double-figures in runs for the third time this season while rapping out a season-best matching 20 hits while improving to 12-23 as the Scarlet Knights fall to 19-19.

On the mound, junior RHP Steven Bloodworth (Annandale, NJ / North Hunterdon) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season while sophomore RHP Mike Adams (Egg Harbor Township, NJ / Holy Spirit) fired a scoreless ninth to notch his fourth save.

Six different players recorded multi-hits for the Green & White led by freshman Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ / Seton Hall Prep), who was 5-for-6 with a run, while senior Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Ellsworth CC (IA)) also reached five times, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a walk and four runs.

Rutgers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and appeared to be in complete control before the Wagner bats came alive.

Smith led the bottom of the second off with a double to left field while advancing to third on the play thanks to a fielding error. Sophomore John Lynn (Wallingford, PA / Salesianum (DE)) followed with an infield single to score Smith. After a pair of outs, junior Zack Yesko (Mukwonago, WI / Mukwonago) and Mascelli delivered two-out singles to load up the bases. Junior Jason Gordon (Baltimore, MD / Archbishop Curley) followed with a hard-hit single up the middle to score Lynn and Yesko while trimming the deficit in half at 6-3.

After keeping the Scarlet Knights off the board for the first time, the Seahawks pounced for two more runs on a Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Jr., Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) double to left field while knocking starting pitcher Ryan Fleming out of the game.

Wagner then battled all the back to tie the game up at 6-6 in the bottom of the fourth with its fourth two-out run of the game. Junior Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) drew a one-out walk before moving to second one out later on another Smith hit before coming around to score on a Lynn single to left.

Both teams threatened in the fifth but would leave the bases loaded before Rutgers reclaimed the lead on Joe D'Annunzio's RBI ground out. The Seahawks again answered in the bottom part of the frame when Smith scored his third run of the game on a wild pitch.

Wagner took its first lead of the game with three more two-out runs in the seventh. Mascelli led off with a single before Dini was plunked with one out. Senior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Burlington CC) then hit what appeared to be an inning-ending double play only to have the ball booted and just one out recorded. Smith took advantage with a RBI single through the left side to score Mascelli while putting the Seahawks in front at 8-7. Lynn then caught the Scarlet Knights by surprise with a bunt single to load up the bases. Mazurkiewicz followed with a two-run single to plate Flynn and Smith while extending the lead out to 10-7.

The Scarlet Knights would threaten in the top of the ninth as the first two batters reach via walks. Adams, however, bounced back with a pair of strikeouts before ending the game by inducing a routine grounder to first.

Lynn and Gordon each added three hits and two RBI while Mazurkiewicz was 2-for-4 with a game-high four RBI to round out the top performers for the Green & White.

Eight different Rutgers players hit safely en route to notching an 18-hit attack. Ian Riddell (0-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing three runs in an inning of work.

Wagner will look to extend its season-best winning streak to four on Friday, April 25 at Central Connecticut with first pitch slated for 3:00 pm.
