2015 Schedule
Staten Island, NY – Wagner College head men's lacrosse coach
Matt Poskay, who will enter his fourth season at the helm of the Seahawk program in 2015, has announced that
Matt Bunting (Wyckoff, NJ / Ramapo),
Michael McMenamin (Longport, NJ / St. Augustine Prep),
Patrick McMenamin (Longport, NJ / St. Augustine Prep),
William McMenamin (Longport, NJ / St. Augustine Prep), and
Anthony Peruso (Warwick, NY / John S. Burke Catholic) will serve as the captains for the 2015 season.
"We're excited about each of these five young men and what they bring to Wagner lacrosse," said Poskay. "They're all leaders in their own way, very productive players for us, and have done a really nice job during the offseason. With 17 freshmen on our roster this year, it's vital that our upperclassmen step up in the leadership area and we have that with this group of captains."
The 6-3, 190 pound Bunting brings a weath of experience to the back line. The senior defenseman has seen action in 33 games, starting in 29 contests. Throughout his Seahawk career, he has proven to be a disruptive force, causing a combined 36 turnovers over the past two seasons, leading the team in 2013 and finishing second on the squad in 2014. The Ramapo, NJ native's aggressive play is further evidence by the 30 ground balls that he scooped up last season.
Michael McMenamin is the older sibling of twin brothers, Patrick and William. The 5-8, 160-pound senior midfielder is a gritty, determined athlete who caused 10 turnovers during the 2014 season, scoring his first career goal vs. Detriot last season (3/8) and has seen action in 24 games in his two seasons on Grymes Hill, after transferring in from Florida Atlantic University.
Second-year captain
Patrick McMenamin returns for the Green & White fresh off a 2014 campaign that saw him lead the team in points, goals, and assists, as the redshirt sophomore went on to be named to the 2014 Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Rookie Team. The stout 5-6, 160-pound midfielder is fearless attacking the net, recording 29 points. Also a talented playmaker, he averaged exactly one assist per contest last season, which ranked eighth in the NEC.
William McMenamin, who also enters his second season as a captain in 2015, is a a scrappy midfielder/faceoff specialist who led the Seahawks in ground balls despite the fact that his 2014 season was shorted by injury. The redshirt sophomore registered 43 ground balls in just seven games, and ranked second in the conference at 6.14 ground balls per game. In the circle, McMenamin delivered a 51.4 percent winning percentage in 2014, which ranked fourth in the NEC.
The 5-9, 170-pound Peruso has primarily been a backup goalie to this point in his 11-game Seahawk career. The junior is expected to make the leap into the starting lineup this season, coming off of a 2014 season where he recorded 14 saves.
