Everett, WA -
2013 Northeast Conference (NEC) First Team selection Ian Miller has been promoted by the Seattle Mariners to the Everett AquaSox of the Class A Short Season Northwest League.

Miller, who was drafted in the 14th round of Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by Seattle in June, began his professional career with Pulaski of the Rookie Season Appalachian League (Appy League) while quickly establishing himself as one of the top outfielders and fastest players in the league.

The Keystone State native leaves the Appy League with a circuit-best 14 stolen bases while also ranking among the league leaders in runs (30, t-4th), batting average (.297, 12th), OBP (.374, 13th) and hits (46, 14th). While Miller has had an extremely consistent first year of professional ball, he has stepped it up to another level of late. Entering last night's game, he was hitting .349/.419/.386/.805 (Average/OBP/Slugging/OPS) with 19 runs, 10 walks, six stolen bases and three doubles over his previous 20 games while helping to fast track his promotion.

Miller, who swiped a Wagner and NEC-record 46 stolen bases as a junior, will begin his career tonight at 10:05 pm (PST) at Vancouver.

Notes: Miller is the first NEC player to play for Everett since former LIU Brooklyn standout James Jones began his professional career with the AquaSox in 2009 ... Jones is currently an outfielder at Double A Jackson ... In what could be considered a fortuitous occurrence, Miller will be making his debut in Vancouver, British Columbia, in the same stadium where current Boston Red Sox reliever and 2006 Wagner graduate Andrew Bailey began his professional career.
