Manorville, NY– Rudy Fusco, a member of the 2004 Wagner College Hall of Fame Class, one of the top linemen in Seahawk history, a Korean War veteran and a longtime math teacher on Long Island, passed away on May 20.
Fusco, who hailed from Hoboken, NJ, was a top-notch guard and defensive tackle on the Seahawks' first undefeated football team in 1960, helping to carry Wagner to a perfect 9-0 record.
After serving as a medic in Korea for 18 months, Fusco enrolled at Wagner in 1958 and became a four-year starter and helped the Seahawks to a 21-5 record over his final three years.
During his senior season of 1961, Fusco was elected team co-captain along with Ben Sarullo. Following the Homecoming game, he was the recipient of the Robb Memorial Trophy, given annually to the team's outstanding player of the game. Fusco graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education and was soon hired by Valley Stream Central High School where he would teach mathematics for 33 years and coach football for 20, before his retirement in 1995.
Fusco and his high school sweetheart of 58 years, Rosemary (Aprea), raised six children together; Sharon, Steve, Annette, Rudy Jr., Neal and Rosemary, who bore them 13 grandchildren.
