Andrew Bailey has been named by Major League Baseball Co-Player of the Week for the period of April 15-21. Bailey shares the honor with Mike Napoli as this marks just the third time a pair of Boston teammates have shared a weekly honor,.
The duo joins Mike Lowell and David Ortiz (week ending August 26, 2007) along with Pedro Martinez and Trot Nixon (week ending July 7, 2002).
The announcement was made earlier today on
MLB Network. Bailey and Napoli helped lead the Red Sox to a 5-2 record during an emotional week in Boston. Bailey went 1-0 with three saves and eight strikeouts, against just one walk, over 5.0 innings in five appearances in claiming his first Player of the Week Award.
Bailey has gotten off to an outstanding start in this his fifth season, including his second in Boston, going 1-0 with three saves and 15 strikeouts over 9.1 innings of action.
