Carone Annouces The Class Of 2018

Staten Island, NY - Wagner head coach Jim Carone has announced the program has signed five players for next season. Included in the recruiting class are four position players and one pitcher.

Here is a breakdown of the five future Seahawk student-athletes:

Infielder – Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ / Middletown South) (5-10/170) (L/R)
Travel Organization: NJ 9ers

Brey hit .350 as a junior for Middletown South with one home run and 30 RBI.

Coach Carone on Brey:
"Kyle is a left-handed hitter that is very versatile and can play a number of positions in the infield. He is a hard-nosed throwback type of player that brings energy everyday. He has succeeded in big games, having also been the starting quarterback of one of the best high school football programs in the Shore Conference."

OF – Kyle Cala (Brick, NJ / Brick Memorial) (6-2/185) (R/R)
Travel Organization: Baseball Parks of America

As a junior, Cala earned Third Team Group 4 All-State and First Team All-Shore accolades after leading the Shore Conference with 44 hits. Cala also was fourth in the Shore Conference with five home runs while hitting .456 for the Mustangs at the State Tournament.

Coach Carone on Cala:
"Kyle is an extremely athletic outfielder who has the chance to be a very special hitter throughout his career. He possesses a very good throwing arm from the outfield and has shown the ability to hit for power. We expect Kyle to make an immediate impact in our lineup."

RHP – AJ Catanese (Downingtown, PA/ Mother of Divine Grace) (6-1/230) (R/R)
Travel Organization: All Star Baseball Academy

Catanese was ranked as the 444th best senior in America by Perfect Game, including the 22nd-best prospect in the state of Pennsylvania.

Coach Carone on Catanese:
"AJ is a very talented pitcher that is a hard thrower and has a power slider to compliment his fastball. He plays for the premier travel organization in Pennsylvania and has pitched in numerous big games at national tournaments. We feel that AJ's best days are ahead of him and we expect him contribute immediately on the mound."

SS – Phil Dickinson (Wenonah, NJ/ Gloucester Catholic) (6-0/170) (R/R)
Travel Organization: Brooklawn American Legion

Dickinson helped Gloucester Catholic to a 29-4 record and the Non-Public A State Championship as a junior, hitting .448 with 31 runs, five doubles, one home run, 20 RBI and 26 stolen bases while only striking out three times. His performance earned him First Team All South Jersey accolades as well as a spot in the prestigious Carpenter Cup Tournament. In the summer, he helped Brooklawn American Legion to a 47-8 record and the National Championship.

Coach Carone on Dickinson:
"Phil plays with a ton of energy and is a young man who loves to compete and play the game of baseball. He has excellent range at shortstop and a strong throwing arm. Offensively, he projects as a gap-to-gap hitter. We expect him to help solidify our infield defense and the top of the order for the next few years on Grymes Hill."

OF – Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY / Pleasantville) (6-0/170) (R/R)
Travel Organization: World Yacht Clippers

As a junior, Godino hit .400 with 31 runs, two home runs and 13 stolen bases.

Coach Carone on Godino:
"Anthony is an outfielder with exceptional athletic ability. Another high school quarterback, his athleticism translates to the baseball field as he is a stellar defensive outfielder that also has the potential to be a plus runner on the bases. He also has simple swing from the right side and has all the makings to be a leadoff type hitter for us."
