Somerset, NJ - Wagner freshman guard
Eric Fanning (Trenton, NJ / Perkiomen (PA)) was named the
Choice Hotels/Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week after averaging a team-best 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds over a pair of Seahawk wins on the road last week.
Fanning also shot 63.2 percent from the field as the Green & White posted a narrow 52-50 victory over the Mount on Thursday and an 81-56 triumpth against Saint Francis U on Saturday.
In the narrow two-point win at the Mount, the Trenton native supplied Wagner with a game-high 12 points and seven boards in just 20 minutes of action. Then at Saint Francis U, the 6-4 guard notched a career-high 15 points as the Seahawks bested the Red Flash by a season-high 25 points to improve to 5-3 in NEC play.
For the year, Fanning is averaging 6.9 points on 48.4 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from long range. During conference action, the Garden State native is third on the team in scoring with 9.9 ppg and boasts a team-best 51.7 field-goal percentage.
Following a four-game road trip, Wagner will return home to host Sacred Heart on Thursday, January 31 at 7:00 pm.
