New Orleans, LA – Graduate student, two-time NEC Fall Honor Roll member and 2012 First-Team All-Northeast Conference (NEC) offensive lineman
Steve Ciocci (Royersford, PA/ Spring-Ford/ Temple) was in New Orleans on Wednesday night attending the Sugar Bowl as a guest of the
American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
In September,
Ciocci was among an elite group of 22 players from across the nation named to the AllState AFCA Good Works Team® for the many
community service programs in which he participated in, including several programs that he initiated.
Along with his fellow Good WorksTeam
® members, Ciocci was honored at midfield during halftime of the Louisville-Florida game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Good Works Team
® was also featured at halftime of ESPN's coverage of the Sugar Bowl.
In 2012, the 6-4, 290-pound Ciocci anchored an offensive line that helped lead Wagner to a 9-4 record,
the school's first-ever NEC football championship, a
31-20 NCAA FCS victory over Colgate, before dropping a hard-fought
29-19 decision to fourth-ranked Eastern Washington. After dropping its first three games, the Seahawks embarked on a magical nine-game winning streak in becoming the first NEC team to ever win an NCAA Playoff game.
Ciocci participated in the FCS Senior Scout Bowl Game in Myrtle Beach, SC on December 15, competing for the North team.
On January 2, the
Pottstown Mercury News, located some 15 miles from Ciocci's home,
profiled Ciocci's contributions in the community, classroom and on the football field.
