Charlotte, NC - Charlotte jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and never looked back in collecting an 11-0 victory over Wagner at Hayes Stadium. With the win, the 49ers improve to 9-3 while the Seahawks to 1-8.
Sophomore
Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Freedom (Ellsworth Community College (IA)) led the game off with a bunt single, before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt. Unfortunately for the Green & White, Smith was thrown out trying to steal third on the next play, quelling the scoring opportunity.
In the bottom part of the frame, the 49ers plated three runs, two of which were unearned, using two hits and one big error.
In the top of the second, graduate student
Bill Murphy (Cranford, NJ / Roselle Catholic (Rutgers)) collected his first career hit, before being erased on the basepaths.
Charlotte would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the third inning, using four hits in jumping out to a 6-0 lead before adding one in the sixth and two more in the seventh and eighth innings en route to the aforementioned 11-0 win.
Junior
Nick Alfano (Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep) notched the third and final Wagner hit of the game in the top of the eighth inning as the Seahawks were outhit by a 14-3 margin.
Shane Brown paced the 49ers with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate while scoring a pair of runs.
Junior RHP
Dakota Dvorak (Pompano Beach, FL / North Broward Prep) fell to 0-2 on the year, yielding six runs, four earned, over 3.0 innings. Charlotte RHP Joe Yermal struck out three while yielding a pair of hits over 5.0 scoreless frames in moving to 2-1.
Wagner returns to action on Friday, March 9 in the first of three game at Jacksonville with first pitch slated for 6:30 pm.
