Charlotte Takes Game Two From Wagner, 7-3

Charlotte scored four runs in the first and seven over the first four frames en route to a 7-3 victory over Wagner in the nightcap of today's doubleheader at Hayes Stadium, after the Seahawks took game one from the 49ers by an 11-4 count.

In victory, Charlotte improves to 8-3 while the Green & White falls to 1-7. The teams will meet tomorrow at 12:00 pm in the series finale.

Wagner recorded six hits in the second game and was led by sophomore Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Freedom / Ellsworth (IA)), who went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI while recording his second-straight multi-hit performance and the third in four games. Senior Hayden Hunter (Santa Monica, CA / Notre Dame Academy) also doubled and drove in two of the Seahawks three runs.

The 49ers struck quickly with four first-inning runs on four hits while batting around. Charlotte would add one more tally in the third and two in the fourth while chasing starter RHP Dan Watson (Howell, NJ / Howell) after just 3.0 innings of work.

The Seahawks finally got on the board with a run in the top of the fifth after Hunter plated freshman Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township), who led off the inning with a triple.

Wagner added another run in the top of the sixth inning with a two-out rally. Senior Eddie Brown (Edison, NJ / St. Joseph's (Metuchen) / Seton Hall) delivered a single, before scoring all the way from first on Smith's RBI double, cutting the deficit to 7-2.

The Seahawks would score one more run in the top of the ninth inning when Hunter brought around senior Tommy Higgins (Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) with a RBI double.

Watson (0-1) assumed the loss, striking out two while yielding seven runs over 3.0 innings. Freshman RHP Steven Bloodworth (Annandale, NJ / North Hunterdon) was outstanding in relief of Watson, firing 5.0 scoreless innings.

Ross Steedley was a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, pacing a 13-hit Charlotte attack.

RHP Chad Rothlin (1-0) earned the win, striking out four while holding the Green & White to four hits and two runs over 7.2 innings.
