Former Fordham Assistant Custavious Patterson Named Wide Receivers Coach

Staten Island, NY - Custavious Patterson, who spent the past six seasons as an assistant football coach at Fordham University, has been named wide receivers coach Wagner head coach/athletic director Walt Hameline said.

Patterson, who served as an assistant under current Seahawks' Associate Head Coach Tom Masella when Masella was the head coach at Fordham and Central Connecticut St., replaces Marcus Edwards who has accepted a position on the staff at Bowling Green St. University, a program that competes at the FBS level in the Mid-American Conference.

Patterson was Fordham's wide receiver coach from 2006 to 2010 before taking over as running backs coach in 2011.
“Custavious is a highly-regarded, veteran coach and an accomplished recruiter,” said Hameline. “He's coached and developed quality receivers for a long time and we're excited to add him to our staff. I am confident that our entire program, and in particular our wide receiver corps, will benefit from his experience.”

In 2011, the Rams had five players who caught five or more passes on the season while the Rams' 2010 wide receiver unit was dominated by senior Jason Caldwell who led the Patriot League and ranked tied for 12th in the NCAA FCS in receptions/game (6.5). He also placed second in the league and 23rd in the NCAA FCS in receiving yards/game (82.7). Caldwell, who graduated with 186 career receptions for 2,643 yards and 18 touchdowns, ranks second on the Fordham all-time receptions and receiving yards lists and fourth on the career touchdown list. Under Patterson's tutelage in 2009, Caldwell received Third-Team All-America honors from the Associated Press after turning in one of the most productive season for a Fordham wide receiver, catching 79 passes for 1,252 yards and nine touchdowns.

At Central Connecticut in 2005, Patterson served as the wide receivers coach after spending 2004 on the staff at Leon High School in Tallahassee, FL where he served as head junior varsity coach and the wide receivers coach for the varsity.
Patterson has also gained professional coaching experience, first with a Minority Coaching Internship with the New York Giants in 2007, working with the quarterbacks and wide receivers, and then serving as a Guest Coach with the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the CFL in 2008.

Patterson earned a bachelor's degree from Morgan State in 2004 and was a one-year starter at quarterback for the Bears. Prior to Morgan State, he was an All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-American quarterback at SUNY-Morrisville for two seasons, where he holds the career records for passing touchdowns and total yardage and was a team captain in his final season.

In June of 2006, Patterson was inducted into the Morrisville State College Athletic Hall of Fame.
