Staten Island, NY -
Wagner posted a 7-1 victory over Quinnipiac in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. With the win, the Seahawks improve to 5-11 and 2-0 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Bobcats fall to 1-10 and 0-2 in the league.

After scoring just one time yesterday, Wagner struck quickly for two first-inning runs. Sophomores Ian Miller (Downington, PA / Bishop Shanahan) and Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Freedom / Ellsworth (IA) CC) led off with infield singles, before Miller then came around to score on a double-play grounder.  Senior Tommy Higgins (Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) capped the scoring with a run-scoring triple down the left field line, plating classmate Hayden Hunter (Santa Monica, CA / Notre Dame), who was hit by a pitch with two outs.

The Seahawks added to the lead with two more runs in their next trip to the plate. With one out, graduate student Bill Murphy (Cranford, NJ / Roselle Catholic / Rutgers) drew a four-pitch walk before junior Nick Alfano (Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep) singled and Miller drew a free pass to load up the bases. Murphy would come in to score after Smith drew a full-count walk before Brown plated Alfano with a sacrifice fly, extending the score out to 4-0.

QU then posted its first major scoring threat with a two-out rally in the top of the third. However, with runners on first-and-second and two outs, sophomore RHP Ryan Casey (Paramus, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) induced an inning-ending grounder to Higgins at third.

The Green & White then pounced for two more runs in the bottom of the frame. Higgins led off with a single before moving to second on a Jayson Keel (Jr., Starkville, MS / Starkville / Holmes CC) sacrifice bunt. Higgins would come around to score on Nick Dini's (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) infield single, when the throw to first got past the first baseman. Dini then stole second and came around to score on a Murphy RBI single to left field, which extended the lead to 6-0 and his hitting streak to eight games

In the top of the fourth, Quinnipiac dented the scoreboard for the first this weekend with three-straight singles, the last of which came off the bat of Brian Ruditys and scored Zak Palmer. Casey then buckled down and got Forrest Dwyer to pop out before striking out Jesse Ulrich looking, limiting the damage to just one run.

Wagner got that run back in the bottom part of the frame when Keel crushed a RBI double, plating Hunter, who had reached via a fielder's choice, while extending the lead to 7-1.

That was all Casey (1-1) would need as the Garden State native worked out of some light jams over the final three frames en route to picking up his first collegiate complete game and win.  For the day, he struck out five while not walking a batter and over 7.0 innings of work while holding the Bobcats to a paltry .091 average (1-11) with runners in scoring position.

The Seahawks used a total-team effort in collecting the win as all nine starters reached base safely with eight collecting hits.  Higgins and Miller each recorded a pair of base knocks, pacing a 10-hit attack.

QU, which had 11 hits, was led by Nic Civale, Kyle Nisson and Palmer, all of whom recorded multiple-hits in the game.

George Dummar (1-2) took the loss, yielding seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits and three walks over 3.1 innings.
