Box Score / Box Score (PDF)

Atlanta, GA -
No. 20 Georgia Tech (12-5) scored five runs in its first trip to the plate and never looked back en route to a 15-4 win over Wagner (3-10) in non-conference action at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Seahawks kept the game close for the first three and a half innings and trailed just 5-2, before the Yellow Jackets responded with five-run frames in the fourth and fifth innings en route to building an insurmountable 15-2 lead.

Georgia Tech jumped out of the gates with five first-inning runs, on back-to-back-to-back home runs. Jake Davies opened the scoring with a three-run shots before Sam Dove and Paul Kronenfeld followed with solo home runs.

Wagner immediately got two of those runs back in the top of the second inning. Bill Murphy (GS, Cranford, NJ / Roselle Catholic / Rutgers) led off with an infield single, while extending his hitting streak to five games, before Jayson Keel (Jr., Starkville, MS / Starkville / Holmes CC) drew a walk. Following a fly out, senior Hayden Hunter (Santa Monica, CA / Notre Dame) deposited a two-run double to deep center field, plating Murphy and Keel.

With the deficit still 5-2, the Seahawks would again threaten in each of their next two trips to the plate, but stranded a pair of runners each time. In the top of the fourth, Yellow Jackets left fielder Brandon Thomas made a diving catch of Ian Miller's (Downington, PA / Bishop Shanahan) blooper, which prevented two runs from scoring.

From that point it was all Georgia Tech as the home team notched five runs in the bottom of the fourth before adding five more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as the lead grew to 15-2.

The Green & White would tack on runs in the sixth and eighth innings, providing the final 15-4 score.

Hunter led the way on offense with his second multi-hit game of the year, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run.

Georgia Tech, which outhit Wagner 17-6, saw 10 different players hit safely, led by Evans, who went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Picking up the win for the Yellow Jackets was RHP Matt Grimes (3-1) while freshman RHP Max Schmardel (Eatontown, NJ / Monmouth Regional) fell to 0-3 in defeat.

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday, March 14 at 5:30 pm at Virginia Tech.
