Somerset, NJ - Wagner senior RHP
Ryan Van Spronsen (Brantford, Ontario / Assumption College) has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week following his outstanding performance in Wagner's 4-1 victory over Atlantic Sun member Jacksonville on Saturday, March 10.
Van Spronsen slammed the brakes on Seahawks' three-game slide while putting the Green & White in position for their eventual series win over the Dolphins. After Wagner dropped the opener of a three-game set against a team that earned a NCAA At-Large Selection last year, Van Spronsen took the ball and twirled a nine-inning complete-game victory.
The Seahawks' senior right-hander surrendered only one run on five hits and two walks against the Dolphins, who were tabbed second in the 2012 A-Sun preseason coaches' poll. The Canadian-born Van Spronsen yielded just one extra-base hit on 97 pitches to close the book on a club that earned top-40 billing in the
Collegiate Baseball News Preseason Poll. He also registered career-highs in strikeouts (9) and innings pitched (9.0) while twice fanning Preseason All-American first baseman Adam Brett Walker.
His performance also yielded him national praise in Eric Sorenson's
College Baseball Today blog. To read the excerpt click

He Is now 2-0 with 13 strikeouts, a 2.05 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over 22.0 innings of work while limiting the opposition to a .194 average. Additionally, both of Van Spronsen's victories have come against teams that qualified for NCAA Regional play a year ago.
Wagner returns to action on Tuesday, March 13 at 4:00 pm at No. 10 Georgia Tech.
