Somerset, NJ – Senior linebacker
Julian Stanford (Bloomington, CT/ Bloomington) made his final appearance for the Green & White a memorable one as he produced a pair of game-changing plays in helping to lead Wagner to its third straight victory, an exciting 44-29 win at Monmouth in the season finales for both teams on Saturday.
Not only was Stanford wreaking his usual havoc on the edge from his outside linebacker position, but he came up huge on special teams as well. The athletic 6-2, 225-pound Stanford produced a pivotal blocked punt that resulted in a second-quarter touchdown. With the game tied at 14-14 and Monmouth punting from its own 37-yard line, Stanford broke through and stuffed the kick. Fellow senior
Jeremiah Brown (Brooklyn, NY/ grand Street Campus) eventually scooped up the ball at the Hawks' 22-yard line and e the strong safety took it in for the go-ahead score with 6:46 left before halftime.
The Seahawks led the remainder of the game on the way to the third consecutive victory in the NEC's Outer Bridge rivalry series. Stanford, who finished with six tackles, later returned an interception, his third of the season, 37 yards for a fourth-quarter score in the win. For Stanford it was his second “pick-six” of the season.
Stanford's honor marks the sixth time that a Seahawk has been cited by the NEC this season and it's the second time Stanford has received an NEC weekly honor. During Wagner's season-ending three-game winning streak, a different Seahawks has earned a weekly NEC player of the Week honor.
In Wagner's 38-17 win at Robert Morris on Nov. 17, sophomore running back
Dominique Williams (Bridgeton, NJ/ Bridgeton) earned Co-NEC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his 32-carry, 216-yard, four-touchdown game. A week earlier, sophomore cornerback
Torian Phillips (Staten Island, NY/ Port Richmond) was named Defensive Player of the Week following the November 5 victory over Sacred Heart.
Redshirt freshman cornerback
Jarrett Dieudonne (Fort Lauderdale, FL/ Dillard) copped NEC Rookie of the Week honors following a big game vs. Georgetown (10/8). Williams (Bridgeton, NJ/ Milford Academy) and junior linebacker Carl-Olivier Prime (Laval, Quebec/ The Kent School) were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively following Wagner's 38-28 season-opening win over Saint Francis (PA).
The Seahawks ended the season with a 4-7 record, including a 4-4 NEC mark which placed Wagner in a tie with Monmouth for fourth place in the eight-team league.
