Bailey At All-Star Media Day
Anaheim, CA - 2006 Wagner graduate
Andrew Bailey made his All-Star debut and did not disappoint at the 81st mid-season classic at Angels Stadium of Anaheim.
Bailey, the reigning American League (AL) Rookie of the Year, entered in the top of the seventh inning with a runner on second and two outs. After Rafael Furcal drew a full-count walk, the hard-throwing Bailey struck out Brandon Phillips with a nasty breaking ball to ensure the National League's lead stayed at 3-1.
"I am happy for Andrew ... he has handled all of the pressures of being a MLB player well," said head coach
Joe Litterio. "He has done himself, his family, his friends and the Wagner community proud."
For Bailey it was his second All-Star selection after also qualifying as a rookie in 2009. The Oakland Athletics' closer did not pitch in St. Louis a year ago, making the first appearance in an All-Star game in one of the four major professional sports by a former Wagner student-athlete.
