Walt Hameline Fact Sheet (updated)

Staten Island, NY –
Wagner sophomore quarterback Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic) completed 13-of-26 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown while rushing 25 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns while lifting the Green & White to a 31-20 win over Monmouth, giving Seahawk head coach Walt Hameline his 200th career victory.

Now in his 30th season as the head coach at Wagner, Hameline becomes just the eighth active FCS head coach to win 200 games. He is also just the 66th coach in NCAA history to reach the 200-win club and the 35th to do so at one school. Hameline will also forever be linked to Penn State head coach Joe Paterno as the Nittany Lions gave the 45th-year coach his 400th career victory with a 35-21 win over Northwestern.

With the victory, Wagner improves to 5-4 on the season, 3-3 in Northeast Conference play while Monmouth falls to 3-6 and the Hawks are also 3-3 in league play. The series between the teams is now knotted at 9-9, with the Green & White improving to 3-6 on Staten Island against coach Hameline's former defensive coordinator Kevin Callahan, who has been in West Long Branch since the program's inception in 1993. The victory also quells a bizarre streak in which the visiting team had won each of the previous six meetings dating back to 2004.

Senior defensive back Frantz Placide (Miami, FL / Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) had a big hand in the victory, blocking a fourth quarter punt and returning it 29 yards for a touchdown before blocking an extra point on the subsequent drive. Senior WR Tyrone Collins (Geneva, NY/ Geneva) also had a huge game with four catches for a career-best matching 112 yards. Collins had grabs of 46, 40, 23 and three yards en route to his second career 100-yard game. On special teams, Collins had three punt returns for 27 yards and one kickoff return for 23 yards and has not fumbled the ball on 52 touches this season.

Doscher notched his first 100-yard game of the year on the ground after recording four a year ago. The Staten Island native had four pass plays of at least 26 yards en route to his fifth 200-yard passing performance of the year. Doscher has also had a hand in each of the last eight Wagner offensive scores (five running, three passing) over the Duquesne, CCSU and Monmouth match-ups.

Not to be outdone on the ground was senior Eric Foxworth (Trenton, NJ / Holy Cross). The second-year back had a career-best scamper of 51 yards to go along en route to 85 yards on 14 carries (6.1 ypc). Doscher and Foxworth combined for 222 yards on the ground after notching just 72 a week ago as the Seahawks were held to a season-low 193 yards of total offense.

Following a scoreless first quarter, Monmouth got on the board first via a 43-yard touchdown jaunt up the right sideline by Bobby Giles with 7:25 left in the opening half to give the Hawks a 7-0 lead. For Giles, it was his first touchdown since scoring on a 60-yard run against the Wagner in last year's match-up. The Seahawks knotted the game at 7-7 right before halftime when Doscher led the Green & White on a crisp 7-play, 80-yard drive capped by sophomore wide receiver Darnell Sapps' (Syracuse, NY/ Milford) first career touchdown, a 26-yard grab with just 52 seconds left in the half. The drive took just 59 seconds and was made possible by senior Greg Francois' (Willingboro, NJ / Holy Cross) second interception of the year on a ball thrown to the end zone, quelling a Hawk drive while swinging the all-important momentum.

After halftime, Wagner went on top 14-7 on a four-yard TD run by Doscher at the 10:12 mark of the third quarter, capping a four-play, 64-yard drive that took just 1:36. Monmouth came right back to tie the game at 14-14 when QB Kyle Frazier found WR Matt Plautz on a 15-yard touchdown pass in the end zone with 1:53 to go in the third quarter.

As has been the case in all five Wagner wins this year (outscored the opposition 45-16 after the third in five wins), the Seahawks won the game with a strong fourth quarter. After Foxworth ran for three yards on the play of the period, Doscher found Collins for a 40-yard pass play to the Monmouth eight-yard line as the acrobatic receiver managed to stay in bounds while coming down with the ball.  Doscher did the rest, rushing for five yards on the next play before finding paydirt on a three-yard scamper. Following sophomore David Lopez's (Plantation, FL / American Heritage) extra point the Green & White went back in front 21-14.

After the ensuing drive stalled, Placide delivered the knockout blow, blocking Jack Daniels' punt, recovering it and returning it 29 yard for his first touchdown of the year. Monomuth momentarily answered on Mitchell Pollard's seven-yard touchdown reception before Placide blocked the extra-point attempt. For Placide, a preseason All-American, the two blocks are his first of the year after notching six a year ago en route to First Team All-NEC honors. Placide finished up with six total tackles while returning two kickoffs for 45 yards.

Wagner would put the icing on the proverbial cake on Lopez's 25-yard field goal with just 1:37 to play. The Seahawks then allowed the Hawks the center of the field before Monmouth ran out of time and the Green & White captured Hameline's historic victory.

Hameline is now 200-114-2 (.636), including 105-47-1 at home while guaranteeing his 26th winning season (out of 30) at home. Including his tenure as an assistant coach, Hameline has been a part of 215 Wagner wins (out of 375 in school history) (.573). The Brockport State alum got to share the celebration with his wife Debbie and daughters Kristen & Kelly on the field following the game. 200-win t-shirts were distributed before a nine-plus minute video of tributes from but not limited to Wagner President Richard Guarasci, NEC commissioner Noreen Morris, former New York Giant quarterback Phil Simms, former New York Jet quarterback Boomer Esiasan, current Giants coach Tom Coughlin, current Mississippi State coach and former Wagner assistant Dan Mullen, current Toronto Raptors assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo, current Kent State sports information assistant Todd Vatter and Coach Hameline's family was shown on the Lebovitz Family Scoreboard. The entire video can be see by clicking HERE

After recording just two sacks over the previous three games, the defensive unit recorded four for 18.0 yards of lost yardage, highlighted by two from senior Mike Cox (West Hempstead, NY / Friends Academy). Reigning Bridge Financial Wagner Student-Athlete of the Month Senior Stefen Gage (Syracuse, NY / Henninger) had another outstanding game, notching a game-high 14 tackles

Giles led Monmouth with 96 yards and a score. Pollard had five catches for 49 yards and a score while Frazier was 17-of-22 in the air for 182 yards and a score.

Wagner is next in action on Saturday, Nov. 13 when the Seahawks travel to Albany for a 1:00 pm kickoff. Coach Hameline will take on his former mentor Bob Ford, who leads all active FCS coaches with 244 wins.
