Czech Signed to Offseason Roster of the Pittsburgh Steelers

Piotr Czech (Keyport, NJ/ Keyport), a 2007 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American placekicker has been signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers' offseason roster, ensuring the third straight season that he will enter training camp as a member of an NFL team.

Czech, who was on the Steelers' roster until the final day of training camp last summer, was released by the team in September after splitting time with kicker Jeff Reed during the pre-season. He then signed a contract with the New York Sentinels of the United Football League (UFL), a first-year league which began play last fall.

The sturdy 6-5, 210-pound Czech was signed by the Baltimore Ravens in 2008, and then went on to be signed by the Steelers in 2009.

Czech possessed the strongest leg of any placekicker to ever compete in the Northeast Conference during its 12-year football history. Czech converted on field goal attempts of 56 and 50 yards during the 2007 season. The 56-yarder, which came against Saint Francis (PA) at windy Wagner College Stadium, is the longest in league and Wagner history.

With two successful tries from 54 yards out during the 2006 season, Czech owns the three longest field goals ever converted in the NEC. His accuracy was also second to none as evidenced by his 84.2 percent (16-19) field goal success rate. Czech's strong leg was also a major weapon on kick-offs.
