Hashmall, Jones, Johnston Named to Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association Academic Squads

Staten Island, NY - Midfielder Lindsay Hashmall (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) and goalies Amy Jones (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford) and Alex Johnston (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville) were among 407 student-athletes at 152 institutions recognized for their excellence in the classroom during the 2008-09 academic year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association (IWLA).

All student-athletes were nominated by their institutions and have attained at least junior standing academically. Nominees considered had a GPA of at least 3.5 or were in the top 10 percent of their squad.

Hashmall was a senior in 2008-09 and graduated with a degree in Business Administration - Accounting Concentration (Mathematics. Jones also earned her degree last May, majoring in Anthropology (Gender Studies, Sociology). Johnston, who is beginning her senior year, is majoring in Mathematics/Childhood Education & Special Education K- 6.

The honor for this trio of Seahawk student-athletes comes on the heels of last week's announcement that the IWLCA honored the Wagner College women's lacrosse program with the distinction of Division I Merit Status as the Seahawks earned the highest team Grade Point Average among all Division I institutions that compete in women's lacrosse.

Among the 49 institutions in Division I that earned Academic Squad honors, the teams with the three highest team GPAs earned the honor of being named a Merit Squad. Wagner College led all schools with a team GPA of 3.53 to finish ahead of Stanford (3.523) and Hofstra (3.50). Wagner's overall team GPA was the highest among all institutions that compete in Division I, Division II and Division III.
