Bailey Named American League Rookie Of The Month For August

2006 Wagner graduate and 2009 All-Star Andrew Bailey continues to impress for the Oakland Athletics earning Gillette Presents American League Rookie of the Month honors for August. In 11 games, the 6-3 hard-throwing right-hander went a perfect 7-for-7 in save situations while recording a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA over 11.0 shutout frames.

Bailey also limited hitters to a minuscule .108 average, yielding just four hits, three of which were of the infield variety. Additionally, Bailey did not walk a batter and has not issued a free pass in any of his last 14 appearances – spanning 14.0 innings.

On the year, Bailey is 6-3 with a 1.88 ERA, 21 saves and 76 strikeouts over 72.0 innings while seeing action in 57 games. He is just two saves off of 2005 American League Rookie of the Year Huston Street's first-year club record.

Bailey is also among the front runners for the 2009 American League Rookie of the Year Award. Wagner's first Major League player, Curt Blefary won the 1965 American League honor for the Baltimore Orioles.
