Men’s Lax to Host Annual Alumni Day on Saturday

Sophomore goalie Peter Rubin had 169 saves in his first season of action in 2009
Staten Island, NY – Wagner head lacrosse coach Jason Rife and the men's lacrosse program will hold its annual alumni game on Saturday, September 26 at Wagner College Stadium from 8:30 am-10:00 pm and will pit the current edition of the Green & White against former members of the Seahawks.

“We look forward to having all those guys come back and suit up one more time on Grymes Hill,” said Rife. “Last year, more than 20 former lettermen returned which is great and we have received a nice response so far this year as well. It will be great for the former players to go out there and get an up close look at out our 2010 squad. And for our team, it provides us our first live game action of the year, which is important, especially for our younger players.”

The Seahawk program is still in its infancy, having completed its 10th year last season, highlighted by a victory over Presbyterian, while coach Rife begins his third year at the helm.

“The alumni game is a great tool to bridge relationships between the past and present while also having the former and current student-athletes to square off against each other,” said Rife.

Recently the Northeast Conference announced the union of a men's lacrosse league. The six-team sponsorship is set to begin in 2010-2011 and will include Bryant, Mount St. Mary's, Quinnipiac, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart and Wagner. The Seahawks currently participate in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
