Staten Island, NY – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has honored the Wagner College women’s lacrosse program with the distinction of Division I Merit Status as the Seahawks earned the highest team Grade Point Average among all Division I institutions that compete in women’s lacrosse.

Among the 49 institutions in Division I that earned Academic Squad honors, the teams with the three highest team GPAs earned the honor of being named a Merit Squad. Wagner College led all schools with a team GPA of 3.53 to finish ahead of Stanford (3.523) and Hofstra (3.50). Wagner’s overall team GPA was the highest among all institutions that compete in Division I, Division II and Division III.

“I am extremely proud for our team to be recognized with such a prestigious award. Their hard work and dedication to accomplish their goals on and off the field is directly reflected in this honor," said Head Coach Cristina Curiale.

Earlier this spring, 17 Seahawks earned spots on the Northeast Conference (NEC)Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.2 or higher; Kelly Blundin (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh), Chanel Briggins (Freeport, NY/Freeport), Carolyn Clark (Syracuse, NY/Westhill), Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NY/Westhill), Lindsay Hashmall (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), Alex Johnston (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), Amy Jones (Jarettsville, MD/North Hardford), Karlee Keller (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain), Carly Lyster (Oakhust, NJ/Ocean Township), Krista Malayter (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire), Dana Marchitelli (Annapolis, MD/South River), Denieda McCollough (Freeport, NY/Freeport), Teri Noll (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge Central), Lauren Petrik (Syracuse, NY), Alyssa Prima (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee), Jessica Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown), and Karen Vitkus Wagner (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles).

Additionally, Clark and Petrik were named to the NEC Commissioner Honor Roll, which requires a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
